Tiny place that looks like it’s carved into the hill. Everything made of stone. Atmosphere was perfect. We asked what the waiter would recommend and he said the cod fish and rice, and the duck and rice. Both were HOME MADE. I don’t know what the other reviewers got, but we got homemade food. You can taste the difference between frozen and homemade. I don’t believe they have a vegetarian/vegan option (like most of Portugal). You should know what you’re getting into. He also recommended the house dessert (gelato with cookies on the bottom and sweet egg cream on top) and the cherry pastry (nata with cherries, very tasty), which were also homemade. I think you should ask what their speciality is that day and what they would recommend, this way you know it’s good and you have a couple of options to choose from. So everything (bread and cheese, 2 entrees, coke, tea and dessert) came out to about €62. Not cheap but the food was worth it to us. The teeny tiny roads make it difficult to get to this place. I’d suggest parking by the overlooking point and walking up the hill, for a...

This place was awesome! Quite literally built into the rock, we found it randomly walking through the streets of Monsanto. Walked in and they were more than happy to seat us even though they were closing (we had no idea). The owner, Nunu, was so sweet and was awesome with recommendations on what to eat! The food was absolutely delicious and the place and the atmosphere was amazing! Bonus part!!! When we were asking for recommendations on where to stay, he ended up owning a couple of rooms in a building right around the corner! The rooms were so cute and he gave them to us for a great price! He gave us a tour of the rooms before we made any decisions to stay with him and we ended up loving them so it was an easy decision :) He was a great host, restaurant owner, and person all around. Highly recommend...

Most of the restaurants in Monsanto are closed on Monday nights. We ate here at the suggestion of the proprietor of the hotel where we stayed nearby.

The place is cut into stone with 5 small tables.

We ordered a cheese plate and bread with olives. We also ordered vegetables for the table which normally comes as a dish.

I ate the duck with rice. 2 guests at the codfish and 1 the pork with fava beans.

The food was fresh and well prepared and not too expensive. It did need to be paid in cash.

My only complaint is the duck came with pork sausage as a garnish. I don’t eat pork. So if there are specific instructions you need to be clear. They are vegetarian friendly.

The place is located in a hill in Monsanto. It requires a bit if walking and maneuvering cobble stone...
