Staff so RUDE! I needed to do some online work, so I asked if I could order some coffee and food and sit on the WiFi for a few hours. The waiter said that was fine, so I ordered even though the only vegetarian option was bread and cheese and soup; and proceeded to answer some emails. I did call about four clients but didn't see a problem with that, as I was literally the only person in the resturant. I decided to pay at the same time as order my second coffee. I had only drunk 1 sip of it when they asked me to leave. I thought it was a bit werid to serve a coffee like that, just before closing and I said so. The waiter said he wasn't closing, he needed to sit at my table to eat his dinner and that he was waiting and REALLY hungry. I pointed out there were four other EMPTY tables in the room, and that I hadn't drunk my coffee, and he said he really wanted THAT table and then stood over me while I cleared away my things. I've taken my work into a lot of cafes and never had an experience like that before. It was awful. He was absolutely lovely...
Read moreThe service here was the worst we have experienced in Portugal. Two waiters spent most of their time playing on their phone, pausing occasionally to hack up some phlegm (shudder). The bread we ordered arrived without butter but just some pallid excuse for olive oil. The mains were truly bizarre. We ordered two steaks. First, they were clearly minute steak, so hardly justified the price (€16.5 each). Secondly they arrived with rice and chips, no sauce, and a random slice of orange and an egg on top (and one small piece of raw carrot)?!? The chips were undercooked (potentially microwaved?). The bill took around 20 minutes to arrive and when it did there was an erroneous €5 charge for a starter (rather than €2 for the dry bread). We had just cycled all day so ate what we could but this may go down in history as one of the most overpriced and disappointing meals we have ever had on tour. We left wishing we had just eaten our cereal bars for dinner. Avoid...
Read moreWe had a wonderful experience. It was a Monday off-seaon, so pretty quiet, so we got a table on the upper patio, which is beautiful and has a great view. (There is the upstairs indoor space, a small patio one story down, and a large patio one more story down. The upper patio has the best view.)
Our server (tall skinny fellow) was great and helped us with the menu. He was knowledgeable in port wine, although the restaurant only has ruby and tawny. (Order a tawny with an ice cube if the weather is warm. It's a perfect afternoon sipper.)
We chose bread, butter and olives, the octopus with sheep cheese, and two chorizo dishes (one was grilled and the other was roasted with garlic.) We also had a Sagres beer and a couple wines.
The food isn't fancy, but it is delicious and the service is great! Overall, it was a great experience. ...
