Monte Sol Stone steak House — Restaurant in Loulé

The Rio Restaurant Steak House within the Rio Apartments is one of the most welcoming and pleasant places to eat drink and be merry. You do not need to be staying at the hotel to come and enjoy the delicious freshly cooked food. It has a chilled atmosphere with friendly and kind family ownership. The food is outstanding - the best we experienced on our trip in Vilamoura. The stone cooked steak for just €19.85 is fantastic - consisting of a large fillet steak served on a hot stone for you to carve and cook the way you want. Served with several dips, some freshly cooked vegetables and a potato side.

All the food we tasted was delicious and all very very reasonably priced. The homemade apple pie looked the best ever and the homemade chocolate mousse was heavenly - unlike anything I've tasted before. We will return to Vilamoura and we eat here again and again and again.

UPDATE 3rd October. Still a fantastic place for either a quiet drink or terrific food. Try the homemade desserts - particularly the mousse, chocolate cake and apple pie and of course the stone cooked...

We went for dinner yesterday with modest expectations, but still left disappointed. Our order was taken quickly, yet the shared starter arrived 30 minutes later: grilled sardines, grilled mushrooms, and garlic bread. Nothing remarkable — something anyone could easily make at home.

The mains were also delayed. The lamb shank in red wine sauce came with just a spoonful of vegetables — a surprisingly small portion. The meat was acceptable but could have been more tender. The spare ribs were very dry, served with the same minimal vegetables. The steak was good, while the pizza Margherita was clearly frozen (confirmed by a chef). All French fries were unsalted.

My red wine was served warm and tasted acidic. The only thing that arrived quickly was the bill — along with the waitress insisting on cash payment. Although I had enough cash, I chose to pay by card 😉.

Overall, not worth a special trip unless everywhere else is fully booked. Service was...

We are a family of 3, 2 ordered the fillet steak on hot stone, there’s were ok, I ordered the lamb shank , it was stone cold, I sent the lamb back and I was told there was a problem with the microwave, they took my plate away, twenty minutes later they brought me potatoes with nothing else, I said it’s too late, I don’t want it now, five minutes later they brought me the lamb, that still wasn’t looking right, i again told them I didn’t want it , they were offensive and tried to serve it to me again, they actually charged me the full amount, they did not even offer me another meal, or us a drink on the house or a dessert!!
