Solar Terra Brum. Wine Tasting Adega do Vulcão — Restaurant in Madalena

On short notice we decided to do a wine tasting because the location was round the corner of our apartment. Our arrangement done via email was for 17:00, so we arrived a bit earlier there. A few guys were already there and the tasting had already started, but it was no problem and we were seated after being greeted. We wanted to taste three wines and got offered a fourth one because he was not aware of our appointment at 17:00. As all others had chosen a six wine tasting we although changed to this. The wines were really exclusive and good and the information we received in between the tasting were very detailed and professional. The young guy doing the wine tasting was really unique, but did a real good job drinking some of the offered wines himself. All in all we had a great and interesting time at this place with some good wines and the way back to our apartment was really funny being a bit drunk...

This review is about the wine tasting activity, not the quality of their wine (which is very good).

Tbh I don’t understand how the others reviews are so good. Their wine tasting consists of sitting you down at the entrance of their property (there was no visit of the premises at all, which is a shame because it really looks beautiful), pouring the bottom of a glass of 3 different wines and throwing a few anecdotes and details while you drink it. I had to make the most of the conversation to make it worth it, otherwise it would have been a 10 minutes chit chat.

On top of it, they sell their wine at a higher price that you can find in a random store. We paid 100 euros for 2 « wine testing » (3 wines) + a bottle of Pé Do Monte (very good wine)

My advice: for 100 euros, go to a store and grab 3 of their bottles and drink them in your hotel or airbnb. That’s a much better use...

Maximum bang for our buck, here is what I mean: stumbled on the place by chance on a slow day on the island // Victor gave us a detailed intro on the old and recent history of the place, including architecture wise // we walked around their beautiful inner garden and talked about the accumulation lakes and how they work (there was a giant storm recently and was not yet safe to go around the vineyards) // the wine tasting itself was the most pleasurable, Victor had so much patience and we talked a lot - a really hands on experience of the mineral local wines amongst each other and in combination with the food. We have the EUR 30 happily and bought a bottle. The bottles, you may be able to find some of them in the market, but years may differ...
