Kojima Sushi Bar — Restaurant in Mafra

Latest Update- been back several times and should have added more photos of yesterday’s lunch but we were enjoying too much and in a little bit of awe of how incredible the chef was yet again. How can it even get better, but it does every time. It was really like omakase. Unreal. We had scallops, oyster, foie gras incorporated. So exquisite and delicious. They are so very passionate and proud. First review: Wonderful sushi and service. Very impressed with the quality and passion in every detail of the chef’s creations. As real wasabi horseradish you can get here (I asked how they made it) Delicious accompanying sauces he creates with great consideration for balance and just that tiny add of unique flavour. Loved the gunkans and his use of the torch. Also wine that was well thought out to pair with fish as we only really like red in the evening and the recommendation was well chosen. Surprisingly wasn’t as busy as it should have been but allowed us a lot of attention. I would say it has to be the top place around Ericeira for sushi but I still have yet to try others. We won’t be back and would not recommend this place. In sum: Kojima serves subpar sushi with little regard to service. Expect long waits.

Staff are friendly but there is no urgency at all. Ingredients were so-so. Ordered two rolls after the dinner rush; it took 45 mins. Unfortunately, the rolls were chewy which usually means the seaweed wrappers are old. A simple miso soup off of the appetizer menu took 25 mins after ordering to arrive. The two ramen soups we ordered took almost an hour - in part because the owner of the restaurant wanted to take photos of it so they wouldn’t have to pay for photography for their uber eats platform (our server let us know this is what happened when one of our ramens didn’t make it to the table). This was really the cherry on top of the already slow service - the owner made the decision to hold back our already very slow order for his own gain. A very frugal service.

3 friends and I had heard great reviews about this place and decided to try it as a take away service via Ericeira Eats App. We went for the 30 piece pack which showed one great looking image (followed by a very brief description of the sushi pieces) and we received something that looked nothing like the image (See images below)

After calling the restaurant to ask if there was a mistake, they denied it. We brought up the misleading image and told us it was our fault for not reading the description but to compensate, they sent us half a shrimp nigiri piece. Albeit it was nice of them to try.

The food quality was good but difficult to enjoy after being so mislead and disappointed. Their service is definitely not worth the price you pay.
