Ti Matilde — Restaurant in Mafra

We had a great meal and experience at Ti Matilde on the wee terrace watching the sunset. It was freezing cold, but there are blankets available and that stopped the shivering!

When we arrived, we were immediately given ‘starters’ which were lovely, but were not requested and nor were we told that we had to pay for them - and even before we had been asked what we wanted to drink. These were added on at the end as an extra charge, and that was just naughty and poor practice.

A further annoyance was that ‘King Crab’ arrived as simply brown crab, which again QS very good, but not as stated in the menu.

To be honest we were having a great time as a family and we were relaxed so nothing was made of these issues, but it is worth while noting for future.

Superb. There’s not much one cannot like about this place — an open terrace overlooking the ocean, giving a perfect view of the surf happening in front of you. And food that is some of the best around, rounded off by some great Portuguese wine of your choice to splash down the culinary delights being put in front of you. The grilled squid was a delight, totally soft and yet that tiny bit crunchy that makes your mouth water and crack in joy. The steak being just perfect tender and full of taste, with a slight hint of salt and olive oil from the grill. The combination of rice, fries and fried egg is a lovely one — throw in a salad to toss it off, and you’re a happy person. Service was outstanding, everyone full of smiles and very helpful; looking at the place they call work, it’s more than understated to say they love...

Although the view is nice, it was the first time that I ordered a bitoque (for 12,50) that didn't come with salad, as the traditional one comes. To give some insight, a bitoque is a traditional Portuguese dish that comes with steak, egg, fries rice and chips. When asked to cancel the rice and have extra salad, I as was told the bitoque didn't come with salad. Even without the rice, they wouldn't exchange it. They asked me 3,50 for a salad, that I refused to pay for something that should be included in the main course.
