If you’re anywhere near the Serra da Estrela trails and craving a proper meal with heart, O Olival hits the spot—and then some.

The service is as warm as the Portuguese sun. From the moment we stepped in, the staff made us feel like regulars, with genuine hospitality that never felt rehearsed. The vibe is casual but cared for, just like the food.

We started with fresh local cheese and house bread—simple, honest, and addictive. The mains delivered a punch: tender steak smothered in rich sauce, crowned with crispy presunto and gooey cheese, flanked by an army of golden, herbed batata palha. Comfort food, leveled up.

But the showstopper? The lemon sorbet served inside a whole frozen lemon. Tart, icy, refreshing—like eating sunshine with a spoon. That alone is worth the hike.

O Olival isn’t trying to be trendy. It’s just right—rooted in local flavor, generous in spirit, and perfectly placed for a post-trek reward. Skip the tourist...

Had 2 nights in Manteigas while touring the Sierras Estrella, would have gone back on the second night but they weren't open sadly. Had the "stewed old goat" after waiters recommendation even though I had gone to have the octopus. Excellent choice, was cooked to perfection, also had the local red wine which is "dry farmed" staff friendly and helpful, all spoke good English, sitting outside listening to the birds on the hillside in the evening with no traffic passing, all round great experience,...

Através de uma recomendação na internet, fomos almoçar ao Restaurante O Olival, posso garantir que foi uma completa desilusão!! Em primeiro lugar, entramos no restaurante e o senhor que estava a servir as mesas deve ter ficado chateado pois mostrou-se carrancudo e de simpático não tinha nada!! O restaurante estava cheio e pediu para aguardar, compreende-se, mas existiam duas mesas que estavam prontas a sentar. Entretanto, disseram-nos que podíamos ir para uma mesa e trouxeram as entradas e a ementa, aí e que a coisa ficou feia. Para começar a uma travessinha com duas tostinhas, duas manteigas e meia dúzia de azeitonas que tem o exuberante valor de 3,50€ e ainda vinha com a loiça lascada, a jarra do vinho que e de vidro também vinha lascada!!! O pão, como se pode ver na foto (apenas dois pequenos pães) tem o valor de 1€!! Fizemos o pedido e lá veio o nosso almoço, posso dizer que a carne e o arroz estavam muito bons, contudo a batata frita estava fria e dura pois nem sequer tiveram o cuidado de verificar se estava bom para servir ao cliente!! Já passava das 14h, seria de imaginar que não estariam boas para levar para a mesa!! A nível de preços, como já deu para perceber, são muito elevados para o tipo de serviço prestado!! Recomenda-se para quem gostar de muitas sobremesas...
