Tucked in behind the streets overlooking the seafront in the quiet little town of Lavra is the truly magical Casa Da Guripa - a hidden gem if ever there was one!
This very special restaurant is run by a team of incredibly friendly and experienced staff that so obviously enjoy what they are doing, are understandably proud of their restaurant and go out of their way to give you an exquisite dining experience. We were looked after by Nuno and Bruno who unobtrusively guided us through our evening with their gentle expertise.
The food at Casa Da Guripa is utterly phenomenal and definitely something to write home about! We experienced mouthwatering seafood and fish cooked and presented to perfection. The main tuna dish was so melt-in-your-mouth and delicious that it brought my partner to tears of joy (bless him!). We weren’t’ planning on having dessert but thankfully we did and the coconut and passion fruit mousse with crunchy crumb was a triumph and a perfect end to a perfect evening!
Value for money at this restaurant is an understatement ….. two starters, two mains, one dessert, two bottles of wine and sparkling water cost a mere €99.50 - a bargain for sure! To dine out at this standard in the UK would have cost upwards of £250 for the evening.
There is no doubting the fact that at Casa Da Guripa the main ingredient is Love.

Waiters were super friendly, attentive and with great recommendations. Wine was very good, the starter just wow. The fish was fresh and plenty, the seafood rice very good. Only the desert did not really live up to the expectations. It was (as so often in Portugal) way to sweet. But this was a minor issue. We were a group of 4 and all of us enjoyed the whole experience. We paid around 28 Euro each and considering the amount and quality of food, service and location this is more than fair. Looking forward to come back with more...
Read moreA smart and sophisticated restaurant in a league of its own compared to others in the area. It was fully booked the first couple of times I tried to eat here but, third time lucky, the waiter found a little table for me. I had a superb shrimp and wine risotto followed by a substantial tiramisù which I didn't quite manage to finish. The initial sourdough bread, little pot of butter and pot of olive paste felt rather cheeky at six euros but the rest of the meal was a reasonable price although it would be very easy to spend a lot here. Total with a half bottle of wine and coffee came...
