I had heard good things about this restaurant and it sparked my curiosity to try. Typically we steer clear of Portuguese restaurants who are taking an elevated approach to traditional cuisine as almost always you are left disappointed both on taste and price. This was not the case at A Forhalha! Rather we were all left extremely satisfied with intentions of returning again and again. We went for lunch and it was quite quiet but in a very pleasant way. All the hosts and servers were extremely friendly and took the time to give us space to review the menu ask questions and provide recommendations. We ordered the bread and butter and tartar for the table and Mushroom Risotto, Lamb Chops and Bife da Casa for mains. All exceptionally executed. We were even presented with a small Amuse-bouche of marinated chickpeas and seared tuna steak. I like the take on it in regards to the traditional Bacalhau Chickpea salada. We finished with some cafes which we were further presented with digestives and a small house made cookie. I would say the Bife da Casa is probably one of the best I have had in Portugal and would happily return to eat it again. I believe this place to be extremely underrated both in ratings and popularity. I look forward to another return in your restaurant! A true hidden gem in the...
Read moreThe restaurant stands out with its recent renovation that distinguishes it from the somewhat dilapidated building. The place is simple but well-kept, without neglecting the comfort of the seats and tables. Beautiful real indoor plants stand out (in Portugal, plastic plants are often used or green design is not considered at all) that decorate the corners and walls of the place. The welcome is warm and professional, we were guided through a fun and unusual menu, but with traditional flavors, even if revisited in a more modern way. Even if some small details did not fully meet my personal tastes (not enough alheira in the eggs, vegetable tempura with a very thick breading and excessive salad dressing) there is no doubt about the quality of the ingredients and the perfection of the cooking of the fish (juicy and soft shrimp in the salad, tasty and soft breaded fish) as well as the other dishes we ordered. Sweet inverted cheesecake, fresh and light. Aperol and Campari spritz even better than some Italian restaurants and cocktail bars. We will definitely be back to try the...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at “A Fornalha”, and let me tell you, it exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism by the superb personnel. They made me feel like a valued guest from start to finish.
Now, let's talk about the food: It was simply divine! They offered us free snacks and some pastries with Aguardiente. The steaks were cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, leaving me craving for more. And the desserts? Absolutely heavenly! Each bite was a delightful explosion of taste, and I couldn't resist trying more than one.
What's impressive is the price point. Despite offering such incredible quality in food, service, and ambience, the prices were surprisingly reasonable, offering great value for the overall dining experience. In summary, this restaurant is a true gem that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking an unforgettable culinary journey. Trust me, you won't be...
