Lunch here was a top experience from our 4 days in Portugal. There really isn’t much better than having the server provide a choice of 3 types of fresh fish brought to the table for viewing and selection. We chose the snapper which weighed in at 800g.
The bread and cheese was a nice start. My wife enjoyed the olives. The white wine came in a chilled, almost snow packed jug. It was tasty w the fish. We enjoyed a vegetable soup. It was more potato-based than tomato which was a nice change of pace. It was a good way to start.
The fish came out and was beautiful. Grilled fish can be tricky, sometimes drying out a bit. Not this fish. Incredibly juicy through and through. Although there are a lot of bones in a full fish, separating was not difficult. The Kama was super good. I put some of the olive oil and vinegar on my boiled potatoes. They were delicious. The salad was also nice.
Following eating, we had said we picked the place hearing about the fisherman family connection. Victor gave us some good history back to the 1950s with pictures of family on boats. It made for an enjoyable lunch and something we will remember.
We then ordered the flan which was amazing and Victor provided a small after lunch surprise. If back in Portugal, we would return.
Note, this is a cash only place which is not all that uncommon, but helpful to know in today’s world. While you can eat for under 20 euro, make sure to bring more so you have some flexibility on how good you...
Read moreDon't be fooled by the good reviews. We visited this restaurant on a Sunday evening and were given the last table. The owner was very quick to present us with the menu and recommend the catch of the day, which as someone told us about the restaurant we took his advise. We then had bread cheese and olives on the table, which we didn't need, but had to pay for. The fish arrived and had been barbequed to a crisp and was dry and tasteless. While eating we noticed that the vacated tables were cleared very quicky and made ready for the next customers. It was all pressure and the staff were trying to get as many customers through as possible. (One booking an hour) When the bill came we were surprised at the cost of the meal. It ended up being the most expensive meal we had in a 16 day trip to northern Portugal. But, certainly not the best food. During our stay in Nazare we went to two other restaurants where the price, quality and service were much better. Catch of the day??? Every time a new customer came in the same fish were presented as the catch of the day and you don't see your fish being cooked. Not a restaurant we...
Read moreThis was a nearly perfect experience. We had such an incredible lunch. We ordered far too much and still ate it all as it was so delicious. The man who I presume to be the owner was so friendly and the Canadian chef was too. The nautical decor was lovely and the place was just great. The only downside was the younger man server who made us feel confused and uncomfortable. We are only just getting into eating fish in restaurants, and we didn't really understand the system of how to buy it when he brought out a plate of fishes. We wanted to do it "properly" so tried, but it was confusing and we were scared we had bought a whole giant fish, so asked to change our order. The server visibly rolled his eyes and made like it was a great inconvenience. It was immediate, it wasn't like there was a chance for the kitchen to have started preparing, especially as it's an open kitchen and we were literally sitting next to it, talking to the lady cooking. He seemed to resent us and it added a little sadness to an otherwise...
