This place owned by Jorge, who has worked here since he was 18, is a little gem in Vila Nova. Jorge serves each table with care and introduces himself and the restaurant. It's not fancy, but the kindness, service and lovely food are just what's needed. It's inexpensive compared to the outrageous prices in all the more sought after restaurants. The fare is simple but fresh and well prepared. We had dinner here first, and were very well received even though it was close to closing time. Anything we needed we were given. We also got recommendations and a lovely chat. The chips are frozen but that is the very small flaw and acceptable given the low prices. We had grilled seabass and a steak (bitoque) with egg and all was tasty. Great bread and cheese, not a rip off. The next day we came back for clams with wine, garlic and olive oil sauce (Bulhão Pato). Whereas anywhere else you pay 16-22€ for one serving, here we had a serving each, each was only 10€! It was a marvellous feast, memorable. With buttered toast, a large side of fries, and a ton of sauce, we couldn't be happier. To top it off, Jorge suggested a carrot cake with cream at the end that was delicious. Best meal we had in town! Dinner for 2 with bread, cheese, dessert and wine was 38€. Lunch with a mountain of clams, fries, beer and dessert was only 31€, incredible. I wanted to write this review because this place has what seems to me a strangely low review score. Perhaps some do not understand that a simple, no frills, but good quality and traditional place where prices are not ripping you off and you are treated like family is something very valuable indeed. Thank you A Telha, Jorge and all the staff. We will definitely...
Read moreThe food is not what you would expect from a fisherman's village, at this price. The shrimp was from the frozen section, and overcooked. The bitoque was bland, with no extra flavours and not a hint of garlic. The portions are large, though. What I really didn't like was the atmosphere. The owner was passing orders at the staff in a really bad tone, and all the waiters looked stressed and were unhappy. Moreover, he was making rude comments about a French couple who had just had dinner. It felt very awkward, and rude. I would...
Read moreI would rate this 4 stars, but since they don't accept payments by card (credit or debit) and only accept cash, it is very inconvenient and deserve the 3 stars!
Food is good, good portions and well served. Prices are aligned with what you get.
The restaurant is a typical Portuguese restaurant, nothing fancy. The service is good and the staff is friendly.
You need a reservation to eat here! If you don't have one, most probably you will not be able to get a seat, due to all the reservations they...
