Dona Isilda — Restaurant in Palmela

As usual, the demeanour of the employees was impeccable, staff being friendly is the strongest point of this place - nonetheless, it seems a bit understaffed compared to pre-covid times.

It is somewhat disappointing them not obeying the law of requiring covid certificates, we were a party of 6 with some foreign people, and the certificates were not even mentioned. Not sure if I will come back during covid times, as I felt insecure. It is far more worrying no one enforcing the mask use for the few inconsiderate idiots that do not use it when picking up food. There were two ladies not doing it several times, employees around, and nobody addressed them.

The choice of food, whilst less than pre-covid times, did not disappoint. The "sangria" is of sub-par quality, undrinkable, seems to be from the barrel, not home made, and does not fit well within the quality of the establishment. On the other hand, the (free) red wine is very satisfactory and goes down well.

The cheeses, had one or two of good quality, the rest was filler. I think they used to invest more in the quality of cheeses. The "salada russa" was dull.

All the cod fish puree based dishes were divinal. The feijoadas also are worthy tasting. All the meat based main courses were tasty. The desserts did not disappoint, they are a good choice sample of the best Portugal...

Bad food quality, most of it cold despite the fact we were the first there. Bad service. Good looking from the outside, but terrible open space that reverberates, meaning you end up having to shout to get heard across the table and compete with other patrons for volume.

We reserved our table at 19h00, we waited half an hour to be let in, then we were shown our table and half way through the meal one of the waiters pulled me aside to tell me that I had to pay, that I should have paid at the very beginning. I politely said that your staff should have probably told me that before entering and that I'd pay after enjoying my meal, after which he accepted and left, only to come back 5 minutes later telling me that his boss told him that it has to be right this instant.

Safe to say I will not be recommending, nor coming back to Dona Isilda.

A origem deste restaurante está num outro que existiu durante largos anos na quinta do Anjo e se chamava ''Alcanena''. Fechado com a pandemia...volta a surgir com outro nome e outra localização. Recuperou-se alguma memoria do anterior como as garrafeiras, a mesa do Buffet, a qualidade da comida, apresentação da mesma e o conceito (cozinha pura e dura tradicional portuguesa). O que se perdeu... O espaço anterior embora ao longdos anos tenha sofrido alterações que lhe trouxeram mais lugares, tinha uma 'alma', uma decoração e ambiente caracteristico. O novo espaço tornou-se um refeitorio. Mesas corridas por vezes para 34 pessoas como constatei. Uma, apos a outra. Com um volume de clientes que nao deixa que a experiencia seja positiva devido ao elevado número de presentes. Ambiente muito ruidoso. A sala deve ter uma capacidade de provavelmente 500 pessoas. Empregados de mesa a arrastar mesas e cadeiras para reformular e aumentar mesas de ultima hora. Pouca atenção ao serviço e uma confusão indescritível em redor da mesas onde estão expostas as comidas. Estão muito proximas e não permitem a circulação. Igualmente a sua reduzida dimensão consecutivamente leva a que os pratos estejam quase sempre vazios pois não dão vazão ao numero de pessoas que circulam e pretendem servir-se dos mesmos. Salvou-se a qualidade da comida e diversidade da mesma. Em conclusão, a D. Isilda, tem uma boa cozinha, mas o restante pode melhorar. Reduzir o numero de lugares e dar maior espaço ao buffet. O serviço senhores...o serviço, é tão importante como a qualidade da cozinha. Apenas a conjugação dos dois pode...
