Sol é Vida — Restaurant in Peniche

Amazing location. One can see that the concept was well though through. As you arrive you receive a nice platter of cheese and liver spread, which you did not order, nor quoted on. I am a solo traveller. There were tables with better views, which weren't reserved, I was given a table at the back... Please note my wine order cost more than most couple's food bill.... There were only 2 waiters, only 1 spoke English. My octopus arrived cold. I asked to have it warmed, I received something back which was half the size 🙄. I was seated inside, and saw this table outside, focusing all their attention (for a good 15 minutes) trying to catch someone's attention to take their order... Only after I alerted the 1 non English speaking waiter, did I see smiles of relief from that table, accompanied with a wave of appreciation.

The food was sub standard. The presentation could have been much better, considering that when I received my (shrunken) octopus back, the carrots looked like they were almost done escaping the plate.

At the end, I asked for the bill 3 times, each time in a different language. When the bill arrived, 20 minutes later, all was in Portuguese. Only when I asked what each item was did I see that I was charged 6 Euro for an extra piece of bread which I did not order or have. When I wanted to pay they said the card machine does not work. Even though I confirmed upfront that they accept cards. Only after I said I don't have cash, did the card machine suddenly come to life... I suspect the tax authorities should go and have a look....

It's got só much potential. It's a pity it disappointed on so many levels.

Would I go there again? I'll be open to rather explore other...

Unfortunately, we had an horrible experience here.

We’re tourists (30yo couple from N Europe), who come to this region in Portugal every year. When we entered this place for lunch, the waiter was so unbelievable arrogant and unfriendly that it completely ruined our midday.

He rolled his eyes, moved his head left and right with every order and was bluntly rude to us the entire time. While we try to speak a bit of Portugese, this guy refused to communicate in either Portugese or English with us while he spoke to other tourists in English in a “normal” way.

We also waited 45’ for our food - not that this necessarily is his fault but again, he refused to just communicate or listen when we wanted to say something. There were no other waiters to help us out.

We eventually made a complaint to the manager (or someone who seemed to be more in charge and who was working in the inside space —also, I’ve never “made a complaint” to any manager) - but this guy really went overboard.

We will never come back here again - too bad one rotten apple ruins to it for the rest for literally no...

Was recommended by locals. Maybe I was unlucky, most likely I was just another tourist and they just don't care. The bank pays them their salary, right?

Prato do dia in theory a nice dish of sea bass, steamed vegetables and potatoes.

Everything was extremely overcooked. A standard salad that was droopy, soggy, not a fresh taste to it. Tomatoes cut hours ago and had oxidized.

Nobody asked how I liked the dish. No contact until I asked for the bill and took my leave.

This place is kicking out food like a machine, but sadly the machine has no control whatsoever on the quality of its own output. Or perhaps they just don't care. It's just there to employ a handful of people, not to bring out the pleasures of the good, honest food of this region.
