This fantastic restaurant served us the most delicious authentic local Portuguese fish meal. Fresh local fish and ingredients. The brilliant smell was teasing our palettes before we had the food. The food was served in a big pan, big enough to serve an entire family. It was very colourful, steaming hot, full of great flavours. We could taste everything including every herb, spice and individual fish in the dish. Absolutely outstanding!! Compliments to the chef and the whole Team of Umami Restaurant, who provided not just an excellent meal, but also an equally wonderful service. All the staff had happy smiles and they were very helpful. Drinks were fresh, local and brilliant too. The atmosphere was beautiful. Everything about this local restaurant is magnificent. If you are ever lucky enough to have the opportunity to eat at Umami Restaurant, take it! We highly recommend this fish dish we added photos of, because it was extraordinarily delicious and we were served with a very generous portion we were given a takeaway container. We finally found the real Portugal here, away from Lisbon, where we enjoyed great meals, but the true taste of Portugal is local. It is at...

The menu at Umami looks simple/limited and resembles a menu you typically get in fine dining/michelin/AA rosette restaurants. Simple menus= these restaurants really nail their service and quality of food. Umami isn't one of these restaurants.
We didn't have starters and it was a 45-50min wait to be served the mains. I had cod with mash potatoes/shrimp and my partner had steak and fries. The lady serving us the food was nice but almost served it to the wrong table. I also can't imagine it takes that long to cook these 2 dishes and there seems to be a fully staffed kitchen at the back.
Food was fine when served but nothing exceptional by Portuguese standards. The quality of food doesn't really quite justify the prices, I'm afraid.
Decided against the desserts as saw a table sending theirs back and didn't fancy another 45min wait. It took us 30mins to eat and get out of there (it took them longer to serve our food). The least enjoyable meal we've had so...
Read moreThis restaurant is one of those rare gems that reminds me why I became a foodie so many years ago. Tucked away in what might seem like an unremarkable place, it offers an extraordinary culinary experience that truly stands out.
We’ve dined at many restaurants across Portugal and have enjoyed some exceptional meals, but we’ve never experienced anything quite like this—especially at such a reasonable price, not just in Portugal but anywhere in Europe.
Everything was perfect: the service was impeccable, with outstanding wine recommendations; the ambiance was unforgettable, with a breathtaking sunset view from the wind-sheltered glass terrace by the coast; and of course, the food was absolutely phenomenal.
We even ordered dessert—something we almost never do—which speaks volumes.
A heartfelt thank you for an unforgettable evening. This meal will stay with us forever and always remind us of the beauty and flavor...
