Brasa Mar is one of the best kept secrets on the island. We are nearly living here 16 years now and there are only a handful of restaurants as authentic as Brasa Mar when it comes to Portuguese food. The location is perfect, right next to the ocean, with perfect ocean views year round.
It remains mostly undiscovered by tourists. Most of them, after parking in the car park, walk east and assume there is nothing towards the pier. For this reason you will mostly find locals here, enjoying the delicious traditional Portuguese cuisine.
The portions are very generous, especially meat and fish platters. Always double check with the waiters as the portions are mostly sufficient for 2 people (even if it stated for 1 person). You can always order more later, should the food not be sufficient. For example, we normally have a mix grill for 1 person, shared between the two of us or a chicken espetada, again 1 is enough for 2 people. The chickens are from their own free range stock, and is definitely in another class. The milho frito is homemade and definitely some of the best on the island. Do try as well the batata cozida, a simple but so delicious with the locally grown potatoes.
We can honestly recommend Brasa Mar to any local or tourist, a great place with friendly,...
Read moreOur lunch at Brasa Mar was amazing. The restaurant offers delicious food and the best view of the island, making it perfect for a memorable meal. The ambiance was calm and perfect for a relaxing lunch, with a serene ocean view. The service was outstanding, with attentive, friendly, and professional staff who made us feel welcomed and well taken care of. The food was exceptional; I had the Spaghetti de Marisco, a seafood lover's dream with perfectly cooked pasta and fresh seafood in a rich, flavorful sauce. My Piña Colada was expertly made and refreshing. Brasa Mar is a true gem on the island of Madeira, The Pearl of the Atlantic, offering a wonderful dining experience with its serene ambiance, great service, and delicious food. Highly...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place especially since others had noted it as a “hidden gem”. The view was amazing we sat outside by the water and saw the sunset. The food needed some help. My husband had the squid it was supposed to be grilled. Some of it was barely fried, some with a little breading and some without. It was like he was chewing rubber bands. Nothing was seasoned we had to add lots of salt and lemon. My house sea bass fish was bland but edible. It came with a whole boiled potato and veggies, no seasoning. The local bread was delicious, although it said sweet potato bread and we didn’t taste any sweet potato. Not the best meal or service while...
