Casa d'Avó Maria — Restaurant in Portimão

Amazing little cafe right opposite our holiday accommodation, it was recommended to us by the owner of the villa. We went at about 2pm and there were lots of locals there eating, as well as some other British tourists. The staff were friendly and spoke good English. We had some bread and olives to start, then my husband had piri piri chicken and chips and I had vegetable lasagne (the vegetarian options were very limited but I'm used to that on holiday), when the food came it was incredible. My husband said it's the best piri piri chicken he's had. The lasagne was so cheesy! We also had beers with our meal (warning, large beers are 1l) and then we had tart to finish, I had almond and my husband had the Algarve tart. When the bill arrived we were very pleased, it all seems so cheap! Will definitely have to go back again while...

I'm leaving 2 stars just because the food was "ok" - but definitely nothing special. 30min before we arrived, we called and asked if they have air conditioning in the restaurant... they said that they do but it was not really working. We were sweating a lot, dispite of the fact of asking to lower the temperature a couple of times. We had to wait a LONG time for everything - even the two soups for babies we ordered took 45min! The waitress was very rude - I've never seen such a bad attitude. Like I mentioned already, the food was average and portions quite small. We will never come here again! P.S. The sign outside says that they serve snacks but when we asked about it, the same rude waitress said that no such thing is written there and asked us if we are sure that...

Typical portuguese restaurant in Alvor area, Casa d'Avó Maria is a calm and relaxing restaurant where you can have a meal of a daily variety of fishes or some other daily meals. They also have some other fixed dishes (meat,etc). We tried a normal grilled fish "Dourada" and it was ok. It was accompanied by a typical salad from Algarve, which is good. For starter we tried a soup that was also good. If you're passing by and want to have a calm meal faraway from the center confusion this is the place. The staff was really frieandly...
