On Bistrô — Restaurant in Porto

Having lived in culinary hot spots like NY, SF, and LA...I tend to be a bit unforgiving with service and food. Without question, both here were next level for us tonight. Our first night in Porto not entirely rested, we wandered into this place and were immediately made to feel at home.

Tomás has created an incredible place to relax and experience all of the must try local dishes. It is an unassuming, come as you are, out of the way spot with high quality food and high quality service.

For food, we committed to a couple of obvious items, but were not quite sure on others, the recommendations made completely elevated the experience (chorizo - fired up at the table - unexpected in presentation and delicious, a white wine that wasn't on our radar at all - fresh, vibrant, also delicious - as examples.)

We were full, happy, and ready to wrap everything up when our server politely asked if we needed any coffee or dessert, which we had already discussed as a couple and decided we were at max capacity. But when service is on point and leveled in the right way, we appreciate that and enjoy drawing out the experience. Her suggestion of the mousse - no surprise, was easily one of the best chocolate mousses we have ever had (espresso was great, too).

We could have stayed and chatted with the people here for hours because in addition to all of this, they kept the conversation going as if you were family coming back for a reunion.

Espaço agradável, pena o atendimento e a prepotência do proprietário, que esteve mais preocupado em elogiar e elevar a qualidade dos pratos do que atestar a opinião da nossa mesa. Pedimos uma carbonara, que estava absolutamente seca e sem sabor nenhum. O elevado preço que se paga por uma massa destas numa casa relativamente recente não faz sentido. Ainda por cima sem qualidade nenhuma. Finos a 2,50€. As funcionárias estavam mais preocupadas em trazer-me finos constantemente do que em servir-nos em condições. Dizia que não e voltavam a repetir vezes sem conta. Para além da carbonara, pedimos também uma francesinha. O recheio da francesinha era bastante bom, mas o que aponto de forma negativa é a falta de qualidade do molho (a saber extremamente a molho Knorr, molho banal e sem sabor de qualidade) e a falta de qualidade da batata frita ( congelada, palitos finos, qualidade inexistente). Uma francesinha que custa mais de 15 euros tem de ser excelente. Não pode ter meia dúzia de batatas com a grossura de palitos a acompanhar. Não pode ter falhas deste género. Com esta localização, em frente a um dos melhores restaurantes italianos do Porto, o senhor proprietário decide lançar preços absolutamente exorbitantes para a realidade e qualidade do serviço que tem para oferecer. A diferença é que o restaurante IL Fornaio tem efetivamente muita qualidade e os preços ajustam-se a essa enorme qualidade. Aconselho vivamente a aceitar que os seus pratos não são os melhores e que se quer praticar esses preços tem que pensar primeiro em construir uma casa com clientes certos antes de assumir o elitismo presente na sua mentalidade. This restaurant is quite new so not many reviews but we decided to try anyway and wasn’t disappointed at all! We ordered few opening dishes -olives sausage and potatoes me and my wife shared everything and it was still very filling for main dish I took steak on plate and my wife took to fish fillet and bit were very good!
