We had pre booked a table for a special celebration. It was for some reason a bit hard to book. To pre book they charge the cards and somehow the cards were giving us trouble, we finally called to reserve. Then they told us they will send info to reserve and that didn't happen so we called again and finally managed to book. It was heavily raining the time we arrived, now for this price point of restaurants in france/italy/spain etc etc you would expect a person stationed to assist with directions or umbrella but that was not the case. We parked ourself and found our way. Wasn't happy with the end of the room table. There were other 2 seaters available and I did make a request but was curtly denied another option. 2 couples followed us and got better tables ahead. So as you see the starting wasn't great at all. We waited atleast 20 minutes for a menu and another 20 just for orders to be taken. We ordered our choice of first plates and mains and requested help to order wine by the glass as one of us was driving and wanted to limit. The suggestion took forever, when it came, they came with reds when everything we had ordered was seafood based. Anyhow if we leave the service out. The food was good but not exceptional for 150 we dished out, especially for Portugal pricing. There is a huge mismatch between the fine dine they project to be vs the service and that was what didn't work for me. Atmosphere was lovely. If it didn't rain the views would have made up for what lacked. At the end we went to the shop to buy 2 bottles and wanted a 3rd bottle of a older port but unfortunately couldn't taste it to buy. Just overall I feel the space lacked warmth and hospitality that I would hope from a fine...
Read moreI never really write Google reviews but unfortunately I feel like I’ve had to today. Food: The food is mediocre and considering the price was very disappointing . I ordered the prosciutto as a starter, the grilled chicken and mushroom rice dish as a main and for dessert: cinnamon ice cream. The presentation was nice but the taste on the other hand was another story. The prosciutto was just okay and the grilled chicken and rice I might go as far to say tasted like glorified airplane food. The cinnamon ice cream was the only saving grace as it tasted decent. Service: The service was abysmal. Our table was asked if anyone had any allergies /intolerances and I mentioned that I had a gluten allergy because I have a severe gluten intolerance. However, I had to ask multiple times for them to bring gluten free bread that they offered in the couvert(bread offered with olives, bread and oil at the start) and when they finally did, some people had already finished their starter. Nothing is specified on the menu and no server confirmed or helped knowing which menu items contained gluten. I also got extremely sick after going to the restaurant which I think may be caused from the ice cream that was served with biscuit crumbs that I initially assumed were gluten free because again they asked multiple times if people had any allergies which I stated. Atmosphere: People definitely come here for the view and it does not disappoint. It is a stunning place and they even included misters to keep people cool from the heat. Yet, it does not make up for the issues I faced at this restaurant. In conclusion, this restaurant does not seem to take allergies seriously, the food is simply not worth the price and neither is...
Read moreExcellent restaurant with a remarkable view of the river. We didn't have reservations but they were able to accommodate us... we got a spot overlooking the river but it was too sunny so we moved one table inwards but still had a decent view. This is a place for your special occasions!
They start you off with special butters (truffle, salamon, etc), olives and bread. The truffle flavored butter tasted terrific and the bread was also well done. We kinda zoomed through and asked for more bread. Since we were to also taste the wines, I decided the take the wine flight - the wines themselves were pretty average especially considering the competition surrounding them. But their white wine which is apparently only offered at the restaurant was terrific - too bad we couldn't buy a bottle. Anyway, we ordered a cheese plate to soften all the wines - sipping wine, overlooking the river - could easily spend 2-3 hours doing that :)
For entrees, I got the black pork which came with an interesting herb, cream sauce - together with the pork it was terrific. The black pork is famous in these parts so they don't over flavor it and allow you to enjoy the meat. I really liked my food. We also ordered a fried cauliflower and salad - both extremely well made. For dessert - got the almond cake - wow!! It was divine - my wife and I were fighting to finish it off :)
Fantastic experience, would be an awesome lunch stop while you are doing winery visits. Make reservations or you may not get as...
