One of the few places you can have bear meat in Moscow!
Quite mixed feelings, henceforth - 4 stars.
The restaurant is very beautiful and cosy, it has the traditional Russian rustic charm with elegant details here and there. Food - marvellous. Cooked to perfection, beautifully served. Simple, tasty Russian food, as good as it comes!
We dined at an upstairs room. Our waiter took very good care of us, with expert suggestions as to what snacks to have and when, was very polite and respectful, and we felt well looked after.
Downstairs they have a beautiful parrot! He made my day. Very gentle and friendly! If you get a chance, do speak to him, parrots love attention.
I knocked off a star because of the encounter with the hostess and a waitress when we arrived. Both gave us very condescending looks (which we still caught from them when we went to the bathroom downstairs). The hostess didn’t even say hello, or ask us whether we have a reservation, or offer to take out coats - very rude and deeply unprofessional. This awkward and rude silence was interrupted by another staff member offering to take our coats. I never imagined this can happen at a place like this. We felt unwelcome and that is outrageous for a restaurant like this.
I couldn’t decide between 3 or 4 stars, but ultimately felt that I had to do justice to the waiter and the chef, because food was...

If you want and even wish to taste the innate Russian atmosphere of past & old times and to be sure that the quality of all foodstuff and dishes supporting such an acquaintance - definitely visit it; you are not to be disappointed :). We've visited it this week and many times before when some of our commercial partners arrived together with us to the Russian capital.
It's situated in a very interesting maison, not badly restored and well-maintained despite the fact some internal reparatory works could already be stipulated :).
You'll be met by some picturesque lady in a Russian traditional dress, sarafan (sundress) trying to imitate some local northern accents :) and by a loooong-tail parakeet knowing English (living with them for almost twenty years):)) . And since there are three serving floors you don't feel any annoyance or discomfort even while there are a lot of people inside.
The very quality of all dishes is very good; and servings are not small (maybe, just salads'' and starters sizes to be improved :). Yes, it's obviously so - prices there are high enough and the place is neither cheap nor moderate, however, if to consider this place as a good finish of your successful business day :), they could be accepted :).
Thus, success attend you and bon...
Read moreThis is a tourist trap. Overpriced extras abound on the menu, which hardly qualifies as Russian cuisine (lots of Georgian and Ukrainian food, though). You'll hear mostly English when you arrive--that's your first hint. This is one of those restaurants that knows its customers are one-time visitors, and treats them as such. The food is mediocre (my soup was lukewarm and full of chopped canned ham; my pressed chicken felt like it had been prepared 12 hours prior). My friend's salad was oily and uninspired.
Asking for a glass of wine, they somehow only had three out of the 13-14 types listed--all of which were USD 10 a glass ("no $5 glasses left" she said while pointing to the pricier options, which I declined). The water was USD 10 a bottle; the tea was USD 14 a pot (honey an extra USD 5, so generously added at the end).
There are many wonderful restaurants in Moscow. This is, frankly, one of the worst -- and inexplicably one of the...
