Today I’ll be talking about my visit to the well known Urth Caffe. Established in 1989, it prides itself on the use of organic coffee and fine teas, if you’re someone who’s into tea or coffee, you’re bound to try this place at some point. Fair warning though, this cafe can be considered to be on the more expensive side, with their drinks ranging anywhere from 15 to 40 SAR and the food items from 20 to 50 SAR. With that being said, let’s talk about the actual Urth experience.
From the outside looking in, you might get the impression that this is ‘just another cafe’ or there’s nothing that impressive about it. But as soon as you step in, it won’t take you too long to realise that the experience you’re gonna have in the place, is going to be nothing short of premium. Chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, books and cups set on the shelves on the walls. And of course, can’t miss the gigantic tree in the middle! The place has a really cozy and earthy vibe to it.
The service was really really good, the staff being super friendly and letting us take our time to decide what we want to get really gave us a good first impression on how the experience’s going to be. Our order arrived really quickly and our food items were served to us on a wooden slab (few more points for the gram!).
If you’re curious as to what we ordered, we had the Fruit tart, Urth Napoleon and the classic New York Cheesecake for our food items and the drinks were a Hot Cocoa, Spanish Latte Granitta and a Mocha Granita. All of these were pretty good and I can easily recommend them to anyone who’s going there for the first time.

We were served 2 salads that had a strong, fishy, rancid smell — completely off-putting and unacceptable. When we brought this to the attention of the staff, the manager, Nicky, he handled the situation with a dismissive and unprofessional attitude. Rather than replacing the salads, he simply transferred them to different plates and claimed the smell was from the cilantro.
We explained that transferring the food doesn't eliminate the smell, especially if it had already absorbed the odor from the original plates. But Nicky kept interrupting us mid-sentence, refused to listen, and insisted on blaming the cilantro — something that makes no sense. Even if it were cilantro, why would a reputable restaurant serve something with a strong, unpleasant odor?
What made things worse was that he didn’t offer a single apology, showed no willingness to take responsibility, and pushed us to just take the food away — as if the problem would disappear. It felt like talking to someone who refused to understand, as if we were speaking a different language.
For a well-known chain like Earth Café, this behavior is completely unacceptable. The lack of hygiene, poor service, and unprofessional conduct from someone in a managerial position is alarming. We left feeling frustrated, unheard, and utterly disappointed. We will not...
