(Updated review) Fusion spoon underwent renovation and overhaul recently (new operator?). Food prices have increased across the board, some popular items were no longer on the menu.
Quality is disappointing. I ordered the curry chicken rice set ($10.90?). Only one side of one piece of chicken was burnt (black) - looks like it was perhaps at the bottom of the pan and reheated? The curry also had a slightly sour ish smell, taste wasn’t sour but wasn’t fantastic either.
We also ordered the nasi lemak burger ($18.90). For $18.90, the amount of fries was really stingy. I took a fries and my hub squeezed the chili sauce on the side when the staff came over to say they made a mistake (no further explanation), and proceeded to quickly collect the plate of burger… … I explained to her we already touched it, but i guess she was really rushing cos she didn’t respond to me. I hope they didn’t give the burger to other customers. After about 5 min, our order was called again to collect the correct burger.
(Review in 2020) Giving it 5-star because the place is beautiful, clean, has nice view, great variety of food and is value-for-money.
If you’re specially making a trip here for the food, you might be disappointed. I would think most patrons are park-goers looking to fill their stomach. My family enjoys coming here. Sometimes, we walk to the park, enjoy the scenery and fresh air, have our meal and walk back home.
My family’s favourite is their nyonya laksa ($6.90?), mee siam, nasi lemak and Hawaiian pizza ($7.90?) for the kids. I find their portion rather generous.
The restaurant might get really crowded on weekend dinner time and during events held at Jurong Lake Gardens.
The menu is available at the counter, on the TV and outside the door. After placing an order, you’ll have to keep a look out for your number to collect your food (may involve multiple trips). The prices are pretty much fast-food restaurant prices, hence self-service...
Read moreI'm giving 4-stars primarily for the environment, which mid-morning on a weekday was blissfully peaceful and quiet! Credit cards accepted at a self-order/pay kiosk.
Located in the Lakeside Garden area, this restaurant is a lone commercial enterprise in a space otherwise dominated by water and greenery. Fusion Spoon wisely maximizes this benefit by floor-to-ceiling windows in the round-shaped building. Many window seats available and a lot of natural light. While I'm sure it's busy on weekends and perhaps weekdays at the lunch rush, if you can come at other times you might get to enjoy an empty restaurant!
The food is ok. Nothing memorable but nothing terrible. The eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly, but chicken salami is still not my favorite and the bacon could have been cooked longer. The English muffin it was served on was thick and dense but also somewhat moist, sticking to the plate unpleasantly. A more thorough toasting would be a good improvement. The side salad is small and drizzled with a sweet balsamic vinegar dressing. The orange juice appears to be fresh-squeezed and unsweetened.
My colleage had fish & chips which looked tasty. Two good-sized fillets fried in a batter - crunchy outside and light and flaky inside. Served with a generous helping of french fries that also looked good.
Their black tea comes English-style (with milk) by default but is unsweetened.
Other menu options included chicken burgers, salads, and pizzas. A somewhat predictable combination of Western and Eastern dishes that still works good for satisfying a variety of tastebuds.
Never saw a human being my whole time in the place - self-order/pay kiosk and a typically Singaporean rack for depositing your trays of used dishes when you're finished.
Not someplace you'd necessarily come to specifically for the food, but rather a pleasant (AC) place to sit and rest if you're enjoying the gardens. Prices are typically...
Read moreevery time I come here, the food quality wise seems to be getting worse.
the first time I tried their nasi lemak, the portion of rice was much bigger. portion has decreased a lot and drinks wise overpriced.
my bf ordered a rosemary chicken baked rice cos they just ran out of nasi lemak (I took the last order). he waited for almost an hour and asked multiple times whether his food was coming. the first 3 times the staff serving the food told him that the food was being prepared but he still waited very long.
the food finally came when this Indian young male staff came to clear our food (out of 3 of us, 2 of us already finished our food and my bf was still waiting for his order). that was when I raised it up that we had been waiting for almost an hour and whenever my bf enquired the staffs serving the food just told him to wait and that the food would be served soon.
so it was only AFTER we raised this complaint that they sped things up. according to bf, the baked rice is extremely overpriced for the portion and quality. can say the same thing for most of their food.
also observed the staff serving the food-- bad attitude and the solo chinese male staff yelled the order number out in a very angry tone after he had been paging the number many times. I was particularly disgusted by that as well as the fact that they kept telling my bf that his food was coming and didn't honour it till much later.
despite all this, have to say that the chinese aunty (probably the manager) as well as the young Indian male waiter were nice. the rest of the staff have...
