I have always been a fan of Dutch way before they open at OTH. Their drinks and food are always comforting to me, so now that there’s an outlet close to home (tho atmosphere not as aesthetic) I still love to visit it once in a while.
However, it’s so disappointing to say that my last 3 visits were greeted by very horrible service. I understand the long waiting time, because of how limited the seatings are so one of the times, we ordered as takeaway and the cashier lady informed us that it will take xx minutes for takeaway food. We got time so we insist to wait and she looks unhappy (as tho she didn’t want us to order perhaps bc it was a busy period for her).
The next time I came, this time to dine in, I had to stand outside the door for 30mins before I was attended to. It’s a clear glass door right in front of the cashier, and the serving guy walk past multiple times, it was peak period so perhaps they expected us to just walk away as they have plenty of business on hand??? I really wanted to eat tho, so I stayed and waited.
I didn’t have timestamps of the above two experiences because I wanted to just let it go. But I visited again yesterday (10/10/25) ard 1030am. Again I waited for like 10-15mins at the door before I was attended to. The same guy invited me in and asked if I’m okay with the bar seats. I needed to use my laptop so I would have preferred the bigger dining table so I said I can wait. The guy didn’t tell me how long was the waiting time but I saw some diners were almost finishing and I thought it shouldn’t be that hard to get a table for one, especially since no one was in queue before me. I proceeded to wait for 30mins (or it felt like more than 30mins), with no follow up from any of the service stuff. I saw a table was cleared but a reserved sign was put up. I felt that staff should’ve told me they intend to put up some tables for reservations and inform me how long the waiting time will be before I agreed to wait. So since I was famished, and craving for the food, I decided to just order for takeaways to which the same cashier lady told me it’s 30-40mins wait for takeaway (again….). I already waited so long for a seat with no follow up, now I have to wait another 40mins for takeaway food it’s ridiculous. So I ask what if I dine in, how long for food - “dine in is also same 30mins wait”. So disappointing that I spent more than 30mins of my time there only to walk out hungry because I refuse to spend another 30-40mins waiting for eggs and toast.
As good as the food is, if the service keeps being so horrible I will really not recommend anyone to visit. The outlet is alrdy so small and limited tables, pls just allow walk-ins and not take reservations during peak period because it seems that your staff and cook clearly cannot...
Read moreThere is no lack of good cafes in Tampines, but Dutch Colony Co is one of the main jewels in the crown of excellent eateries in the town.
I have dined at their Frankel Avenue outlet, back in the days when "foodies" and "coffee connoiseurs" who fed their cameras first flooded Instagram.
So, I'm happy to confirm the quality of the coffee (the cafe is known for their skilled baristas and specialty coffee) and food is just as excellent at their Tampines Hub outlet.
We ordered the Herb Crusted Salmon (thick salmon fillet atop a bed of mashed potatoes and a side of fresh greens with crumbled feta cheese and mango cream sauce). The salmon was perfect, and the mango cream sauce is a cleverly crafted condiment👌🏼
Looking at past photos from other diners, it seems that the salmon dish has "downsized" a little bit (it used to be served with asparagus?) , but it is still a filling meal nonetheless.
Another dish we ordered was the Seafood Marinara Linguine. Pasta was al dente, there was plenty of sauce, and the accompanying seafood was adequate and fresh.
Looking at past photos of the seafood marinara also let me know that the presentation of this pasta dish has downsized a little bit (it used to be decorated with pretty garden pansies?) but I guess it's a way for the business to maintain the price tag whilst dealing with price hikes/inflation.
Coffee: not a connoiseur, but the coffee here has been great and was just as great here that day. We tried the Dutch Blend beans in our latte and mocha latte.
I sincerely pray that Dutch Colony Coffee Co cafe continues its journey of excellence and maintains its halal status.
The f&b landscape in Singapore is tough, and amidst closures of other beloved brands, I am hopeful that this humble haven, where I love to visit and collect my thoughts over a cuppa joe, is...
