On 28/06/24 around 2:30pm, My friends and i came to Fish and Co at AMK hub to eat. The hostess of the day was very accommodating and kind! We are very grateful for her for accommodating our large group.
However, the other two female servers showed us terrible service. The server who took our order had told us that the kitchen was able to modify a meal for us. After all the other dishes arrived we waited for another 30 mins and the modified dish did not arrive.Instead only after us prompting our server did the hostess come to us to tell us that they were unable to modify the meal due to the way it was made in the kitchen. We understood but were slightly frustrated due to the long wait.
Once everyone had their food we asked the previous server for 4 condiments. After asking two times she came back with 2 of the requested condiments. She seemed busy so we asked another server. She came back with the condiments we requested.
When we first started the meal, we did not have utensils but the hostess kindly and promptly gave us utensils. However, we later needed an extra spoon. We asked a second server who was closer to us. However, we were unable to get a spoon despite asking multiple times until we asked the hostess.
As the meal we ordered came with free flow drinks for the whole table our table was often asking for refills. We tried our best to consolidate when we asked for refills. As the drinks were not self-served and we had to ask a server for refills. The service was rather slow the whole meal and had some hiccups, however we were understanding that issues like this are common in the fnb scene so we appreciated the help as we enjoyed the amazing food here in fish and co.
However one incident with the second server is the main reason i wanted to write this review. Towards the end of our meal, i noticed the hostess and second server chatting. i needed a refill for my drink so i assumed the second server was free and i raised my hand with a smile to get her attention. While she was gone refilling my drink my friend finished their drink so when she came back he asked for a refill. we were shocked as she shouted back at my friend.
She said that we made her walk back and forth too much and complained that we asked for too much. We were taken aback as we only asked multiple times as we often did not receive the items we needed to dine with after our first attempts asking. My friend was shocked and couldn’t reply. The second server then said “why you have such a dumb look on your face? Cant you see im so busy?”. Despite the fact she was earlier chatting and laughing with the hostess. i find no issue with having some time to chat and have time to talk to colleagues on the job but asking for service did not warrant that reply.
My friend had tolerated the slow service as he was an fnb worker himself but he was shocked that the server started to insult him. The server ended up not refilling the drink and my friend was visibly upset. The whole table of 7 was appalled.
Fnb can be tiring and we understand this. We apologise if we caused too much trouble for the servers as a big group, but we were nothing but polite and patient. However, its not a reason to insult and shout at a customer. I have noticed many other reviews with a similar experience as us and possibly experienced the same service by the same server.
We are saddened that a restaurant we all loved with amazing food has treated their customers this way. We hope that other patrons of this outlet do not have the same experience we did and can continue to enjoy dining at...
Read moreThis afternoon, my friends and I went to lunch at Fish&Co. The waitress who got a table for us was kind and managed to get one without us waiting. Moreover, I feel like the wait for the food was quite reasonable and I am glad that Fish&Co serves amazing meals. The portion of the student meal was quite filling and the price was alright.
On the other hand, I feel like the customer service is atrocious on the next level. When we first entered the restaurant, the waitress bringing us to our table mentioned that paying by cash wasn't accepted unless it was in exact amount. When we finished out meals and went to pay up, we kept this in mind. However when a different waitress went to collect our bill, we were told that we werent allowed to pay in cash, even though it was in the exact amount. I brought up that I have dined here before, paying by cash without any problems in the past. The waitress replied with, "The last time you paid by cash, we were doing you guys a favour."
We felt that this was extremely rude and unprecedented, and we were slightly annoyed. This also doesn't add up to the statement that the earlier mentioned waitress had brought up, so I believe that there may have been some slight confusion.
Finally, after much discussion, my friends and I ended up using cashless to pay, although we preferred cash.
Such a shame that a restaurant with such good food exhibits atrocius...

Food: Reliable dishes from Fish & Co, with standard fish and chip fare, and their popular seafood platter. The fish portion in the latter seems to have halved from what it was previously. I'd mark it down as another casualty of "shrinkflation". A suggestion for the restaurant to serve malt vinegar as a condiment to "zhng" things up... We asked for some but were told they only have white vinegar.
Service: We asked for the student meal menu for the 10 year old in the family. The servers insisted that a student pass must be presented. While we get that it's company policy to ensure the offer isn't misused, it's unmistakable that the kid is a student. Terribly inflexible. We said it was back in the car, and they said we needed to get it. The manager said they would have been okay if the kid was wearing a school uniform as well... but who wears one on a Sunday? The irony of it all is that when we actually did walk all the way to get it, they didn't even check it after. Not a pleasant experience, and we won't go back to this branch.
Atmosphere: The Edison lightbulbs strewn across the ceiling made the whole place feel uncomfortably warm. As for the crowd, it was half empty on a Sunday evening. Can't help but wonder if the awkward service has turned others off from this location as well.
Will not be...
