was originally going to buy takeout dinner from nearby BTK, but realised that BTK closes quite early (was there around 8:45pm), so decided to buy from Five Star instead.
have eaten the chicken rice here before, and don’t really fancy their chicken (it’s healthier, but a little tough), so decided to order some other dishes instead.
service was quick and friendly. food was well packed, and arrived home with no spillage issues.
reviews for the dishes:
hometown tofu was the favourite for the night - savoury and well-balanced. spinach with garlic was sauteed just nice and the portion was generous. sweet and sour pork was decent - sauce had the right level of tanginess vs sweetness, and came with a good amount of onions/peppers/tomato. only complaint may be that the pork was a little tough. bitter gourd soup was a little too salty and had a rather strong msg after-taste. probably won’t order this again. rice (chicken rice style) was decent. goes well with the dishes bought.
overall, happy with the meal and will likely...
Read moreI was really excited to try this place. It was close by, had decent reviews, and looked good in the pictures!
But when I ordered the roast chicken and rice to go, I was really disappointed in a few things.
First, the amount of chicken they gave me was seriously so small. Im not sure if it's because I'm a foreigner, but I saw plenty of people order the same dish and they got way more than I what was in my container.
Second, the chicken was COLD!! I walked five minutes to go back to the hotel, so there was no excuse.
Also, the girls who I ordered from acted as if I was a nuisance by ordering food to go. No smile, no courtesy at all, and when I asked for an extra chili sauce....it was like I asked for her number or something.
The only reason they get two stars is because the rice was cooked perfectly. The only reason I didn't walk back and complain. Couldn't stop eating it.
Would NOT recommend the two star chicken rice.
Going to Boon Tong...
Read moreNow I understand why the next door Boon Tong Kee is always crowded while this five star one is always empty. I would say in a market with such fierce competitions of chicken rice restaurants/ stalls, the chicken at this five star restaurant is just average. The chicken being tender shouldn’t be the only criteria lol the taste is actually bland and it all depends on the sauces. The sauces don’t stand out in particular for me and soup is really salty. The worst is service when they took about 20 min to prepare for my chicken while I was the only customer in the whole restaurant. I asked for deboned chicken then they cut a plate of chicken with bones and wanted me accept it ? I would not come back because there’s boon tong Kee next door and Singapore just has so many other...
