A Disappointing Evening at Jade.
Nestled within the opulence of a five-star hotel, Jade promised an unforgettable culinary experience. The evening began with high hopes as we sampled the first two dishes, both of which set the bar high.
The Peking Duck was exquisite, featuring perfectly crispy skin paired with delicate pancakes with preserved orange rinds and a rich hoisin sauce. Each bite was a harmonious blend of textures and flavors, evoking the authentic taste of this classic dish. Following that, the Trio Platter were vibrant and packed with flavour and texture, offering a delightful balance that left us craving more.
However, the momentum quickly dissipated as we moved on to the subsequent dishes. The Soup of the Day (pork ribs with apple) and the hot & sour soup - the soup of the day was quite bland and the ribs were dry. The hot & sour soup was more hot than sour with overkill of julienne ginger and the soup consistency was too thick.
Next was the braised homemade tofu that was an odd experience, reminiscent of cereal prawns but lacking the desired depth, leading to a dish that felt disappointingly forgettable. It missed the mark in flavor and cohesion, leaving a confusing impression.
On to the Dong Po pork with winter melon: while the presentation was visually appealing and creative, the taste revealed a lack of careful preparation. It seemed rushed, failing to deliver the tender, deeply flavored meat that a proper slow braise would achieve. Instead, the pork felt undercooked in terms of flavor absorption, making it less satisfying than it could have been. Overall, both dishes had potential but ultimately fell short in execution and flavor.
And for the finale, the simmered egg noodles with Boston lobster and XO sauce had a promising start with perfectly al dente noodles that provided a satisfying texture. However, the overall flavor fell short of expectations. The XO sauce, while rich in potential, lacked refinement; the rough chops of the scallops contributed to a disjointed taste experience rather than a harmonious blend. The dish needed a more balanced seasoning to elevate the ingredients, particularly the lobster, which was overshadowed by the sauce’s inconsistencies. Overall, it was a dish with great elements but lacking in execution and finesse.
While Jade began with a promising start, the latter courses fell short of expectations, leaving a lingering sense of disappointment. In a five-star setting, one anticipates not just quality but consistency throughout the meal. Sadly, this was a culinary journey that...

The dim sum were decent but main courses were disappointing, especially their dim sum brunch was 10 times better many years ago. In comparison, the standard has dropped significantly. Their main courses are not worth ordering, the dim sum tastes much better than main courses. Roasted meat only consist of crispy belly and char siew, which both tasted below average. Main courses such as sweet and sour pork, gong bao chicken and coffee pork ribs tasted bad - sauce tasted artificial and meat was either over cooked or hard to chew, with rubbery texture. Their fried dim sum selection was decent, and xo rice roll was great.
Service was okay, it was a bit slow in my opinion. Time was a bit rushed in the end to finish our food because the next seating was at 1pm. We came on the dot at 11.30am and 1.5 hours was a bit rushed. The waitress came when I was eating to get us to make payment first and was taking away food plates with some food left as they’re rushing to clear it for the next seating. If food service was a little faster, it may have been better.
Even though this is a buffet dim sum brunch, we can only order a maximum of 15 dishes including appetiser, dim sum, main courses and desserts. So you’ll have to make sure you don’t exceed. We didn’t get to try other dishes due to this restriction. If you’re looking to order in peace without to worry about this, this may not be a place for you.
I personally feel that the dim sum at places such as Crystal Jade, Paradise and Jia He are much better, with larger selection, good quality, tasty food, and also better service with the amount spent. We paid around 300+ for 4 person and for this price point you can definitely get better food and...
