The 9th edition of the annual Sake Festival Singapore 2024 by Orihara Shoten is back and ready to delight sake enthusiasts and foodies alike! Taking place on 15th June 2024 (Saturday) from 2 to 7pm at Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre, Level 4, Hall 404, this year's festival promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
This year, the festival has upgraded to a larger air-conditioned space within Suntec City that is double the size of its previous event space. Since its inception in 2013, the Sake Festival Singapore has been the oldest and largest gathering of Nihonshu on the island, aiming to educate and promote the appreciation of sake in the community.
Featuring more than 300 labels from 30 sake breweries in Japan, the festival will showcase a wide variety of special sakes for attendees to sample and enjoy. Each sake brewery booth will be manned by a toji (brewer) or kurabito (brewery representative) who can offer insights and recommendations on their sakes.
Some of the featured breweries and sakes to look out for include Minenohakubai Brewery, maker of Ryouko Junmai Ginjo with a focus on mellow, delicious tasting sake, and Makino Brewery, proud creator of the Macho Omachi with a refreshingly dry yet delicious flavor. Another highlight is the Nabedana Brewery, offering the Fudoh Junmai Daiginjou made from 50% polished Sake-komachi rice for a refreshing and aromatic experience.

Read moreI like that they're very responsive to calls and that it's very heavily patronized by many in Singapore. They have an exceptional variety of sakes to choose from, and at reasonable prices. Could be because that they're the distributors of sake for local Japanese restaurants, thus why they have such a wide selection. The bar is also run by local Japanese, with the help of some Singaporeans here and there.
That said, we were relatively disappointed with service and service recovery. Was there on a Saturday night around midnight, and as much as I do understand the amount of crowd and the lack of manpower, we were constantly given a corner to stand at, for 7 of us, instead of a standing table outside which we would have gladly taken. We moved ourselves anyways.
Our order of chicken karaage took 1.5hrs to arrive, after 5-6 chase and reminders, and it finally came at 1.45am post closing hours. There were no service recovery whatsoever nor apologies. Although the tamago and the chicken sausage came in 30mins intervals, the total wait was pretty insane. We couldn't cancel our order either, as they got us to settle the bill at 1.15am near to closing time.
All in all enjoyed my time, but I honestly felt that the service could be much more refined, seeing that this is also a Japanese...
Read more“If You want to order yakitori YOU HAVE TO WAIT!” This is the tone and attitude that was relayed to me when I asked when I will get my food to go with my glass of sake. 30 minutes after placing my order. Your food will arrive after you finish your first glass of sake so don’t arrive hungry. The sake selection and the price is good but this place has a staff attitude problem. If you sit outside you will have to wave and beg to get service. Order finally placed 15 mins after being seated. The staff hide behind the bar and pretend to be busy serving customers at the bar. The truth is, there is a management problem. There are only 8 customers at the bar. And 11 outside. It’s never the staff’s fault. This place is the best place to buy and drink sake in town. And they are doing very well. So the management probably will not bother or care about customer feedback. Be prepared and learn to be patient if...
