This Penang prawn noodle looks rich and hearty, the broth carrying a deep orange hue, promising that signature umami sweetness from prawn shells. Generous toppings of fresh prawns, pork slices, crunchy beansprouts, and greens make it hearty, while the spoonful of sambal on the side adds that fiery kick to lift the flavors even further. A soul-warming bowl that balances savory, spicy, and slightly sweet notes.
Penang Prawn Noodle - $5.90
Penang Laksa is truly in a league of its own compared to our local version. Tangy with pineapple, refreshing with mint leaves, and made even heartier with fresh mackerel fish, every spoonful is appetising and full of culture.
Penang Laksa 槟城叻沙 - $7.30
I still prefer Penang’s Char Kway Teow for the indulgent duck egg, but this plate came okay too, executed well with bold, smoky flavors that hit the spot.
Crispy deep-fried pork coated in rich fermented beancurd sauce. Its savoury, fragrant, and addictively good.
Deep Fried Pork with Fermented Beancurd Sauce 乳炸肉 - $14.40
The Crispy Hor Fun in Egg Gravy is a comforting dish where deep-fried noodles meet silky egg gravy. Part of the hor fun stays crunchy while the rest softens, soaking up the savory sauce. Paired with fresh prawns, tender pork, and crisp greens, every bite offers a satisfying mix of textures and flavors.
Crispy Hor Fun in Egg Gravy - $6.40
The drinks menu was just as refreshing, offering unique tropical blends. The Buah Long Long & Soursop Juice stood out with its tangy-sweet balance, instantly cooling and revitalizing. The Honey Kumquat Juice delivered a sweet yet zesty punch, both refreshing and smooth. For something more textured, the Chia Seed Lychee Rose combined floral notes with juicy lychee and the crunch of chia seeds, making it both delightful and nourishing.
Penang Homemade Soursop & Buah Long Long 沙梨红毛榴莲, Chia Seeds Lychee Rose 荔枝奇亚籽, Honey Kumquat Juice 金桔蜜 - $6.50, $6, $4.20
Hong Kong Choy Sam Abalone Slices - $11.80
The Hong Kong Choy Sam with Abalone Slices was a comforting dish that felt like home-cooked goodness. Lightly stir-fried with hints of garlic, it brought out the natural sweetness of the abalone slices, while the addition of goji berries added a subtle touch of sweetness and nourishment.

Read moreEverything is done right here! The Crispy Bee Hoon is really unique! You get chunks of crunchy deep fried bee hoon (like the type adorning a yam basket) drenched in a smooth and eggy stock-gravy. The ingredients were plentiful and the meat slices were soft and fresh. The stock-gravy, with bits of eggnog, was just very lightly thickened with cornstarch, giving it perfect runny consistency and lightness. Be sure to eat it fast before it gets soggy. Will be back to eat it more often!
The Penang Laksa, though low on protein, is big on flavour. The prawn paste, chopped lettuce, mint leaves red onions lends an aromatic and complex flavour to the sweet-sour tamarind broth. The mackerel bits were scattered throughout the broth and were quite little, but at $5.90, I don't think it's right to complain. At least they serve authentic "lai fun", Penang-style fat bouncy rice noodles with it, and not the usual thick bee hoon.
If you like ngoh hiang/meatrolls that are done firmly, you have to try their Loh Bak. The minced meat is packed densely in a salty beanskin, and the texture is much harder than the usual flour-laden prawn rolls at the typical zhi char stall. Accompanied by gigantic slices of water chestnuts and a hint of yam and five-spice, the taste is marvelously savoury despite its skinny exterior.
Lastly, the stir fry kailan looks simple but it's cooked expertly in some shallot-garlic-oyster sauce mix. The stems and leaves are crunchy and sweet without the bitter, tannic taste of this vegetable.
Service is really no frills and quick. You have to tell the lady at the counter your table number lest she gets impatient. Considering that it's a nett pricing system without service charge and with GST all in, I find it rather fair.

My wife and I visited Penang Savour around 9pm on 11 July 2022.
The peak hour has passed and there were pockets of sitting space.
We entered and sat down on a table. My wife went to order food.
A very annoying Aunty repeatedly interfered with our seating.
The Aunty came and explained to us that she needed to split the joint tables because the table numbers were not in sequence.
We co-operated and as a result; the Aunty shifted the tables which affected another couple sitted down as well.
I decided to take up another table inside the outlet. Then the Aunty came again and said that she is cleaning that seating area and bluntly told me to sit outside the outlet.
Once again, I patiently co-operated to avoid any unpleasantness. I decided to sit at another empty table within the outlet.
Then the cashier woman told me that the empty table was already reserved, even when there was no clear indication that it was taken.
I openly told my wife that the eatery have a MESSY seating management, and reinforced by POORLY TRAINED STAFF whose needlessly annoy customers with their blunt conduct.
There were reviews by other customers who had highlighted similar problems at Penang Savour before; and Penang Savour still continue to worship their DEEPLY FLAWED SYSTEM which annoyed many customers.
PENANG SAVOUR IS JUST THE LATEST POSTER CHILD FOR F&B...
