Visited this place for Sunday roast with a visitor in town as suggested by a friend to try since my usual fave place that serves up an awesome roast (Oxwell & Co) for me and my girl squad had decided to close down its business for good :(.
The meal at this place was decently alright though the roast was a tad dry. However, the meal itself wasn't the reason that prompted me to give the place such low ratings with upcoming negative feedbacks but rather the poor service instead.
I had wanted to order a Bloody Mary to go along with my roast so when the female server (I believe her name might have been Jessica too) first came along to place the cutlery down for me and my friend, I checked with her if they might serve that cocktail. She was just right by me but without any eye contact or lifting up her head at all while she was harshly placing the cutlery on the table, she simply gave me a hard "No" followed by "We don't have tomato." and rushed off. There was no checking if I would have liked some other drinks or any recommendations made at all which thus led to me to not ordering any drinks while dining there the entire time cos I was fairly offended by the bad attitude I was treated with. My poor friend sitting across me was also taken aback as he he was fairly new in town and I could not be more sorry about my country's standard of service as misrepresented by this one place, especially being an image training consultant who conducts programmes for front liners on service excellence as well.
To make matters worse, my meal was removed before I was done. Half way through my conversation with my friend with my cutlery placed down for awhile, a male server came up suddenly and removed my whole plate without asking if I was done with my food and hurried off before I could react.
Once again my friend and I stopped and looked at each other in astonishment. The bill came very fast though even before we asked for it. However, we were thankful for that bit and could not be happier to leave soonest possible so much so I could not even be bothered to share our ordeal there and then with the supervisor/manager on duty. One thing for sure, I will never visit Penny Black again nor make any recommendations to anyone else to visit this place especially when we'd love to be merry and order more on drinks. Definitely a first in a long time in which I did not even order a drink which said a lot on...

I had their fish and chips, which were decent—not amazing, but acceptable. My friend and I enjoyed the view, so we decided to stay for drinks.
We ordered two rounds of drinks, and to be fair, the staff took our orders efficiently. However, things went downhill from there.
My friend asked for water three times. Each time, the staff acknowledged the request but never followed through. I noticed they had water at the service station, so I politely asked for a cup to help myself. A waiter told me, “Please sit down, I’ll bring it to you.” Still—no water.
Later, while the staff were attending to the bill for a nearby table, I asked why it was taking so long just to get a glass of water. The same waiter said I could help myself if I wanted to. I asked again for a cup—he insisted, “I’ll bring it to you.”
Then I asked if he could help us with our bill. His response? “You come to me for that.”
That left me puzzled. Why do the other tables get service at their seats, while we’re told to walk over? Is it because we’re locals and not likely to tip?
Overall, it was a frustrating and disappointing experience. The lack of basic courtesy, like serving water after repeated requests, really tainted the evening.

Read morehad to come here after visiting Muddy Murphy's irish pub and no regrets! this time i went for a Bacon Butty and the Beef and Guinness Pie and of course, the holy grail guinness stout.
Bacon Butty - A simple yet tasty dish. I think the highlight of this dish is the sandwich bread. Slices are toasted both ways and buttered to perfection giving it a nice, moist and salty finish. Bacon slices nicely seared but nothing too great about the marinade, quite homemade tasting! quite like the fries as well, chunky crispy and too overly oily.
Beef & Guinness pie - A dish to go for on a rainy day. It's so unique as well! just look at the size of that puff pastry! Pastry was v good, light and fluffy and enough bite to it, a good dough. You will not be disappointed by their beef stew hiding underneath! Beef is so tender and melts in your mouth, the stew just goes along great with the pastry or alone. For me, I drizzled some stew onto my Bacon Butty sandwich xP
Guinness stout - Crisp, dry and chocolatey. So refreshing! never a dull one. Happy hour is until 8pm fyi~
overall a great foody experience! would love to catch the seats by the...
