Nice place, with good recommendation on food for first timers. This is a restaurant with higher standard than average in Slovenia (at least the prices are). That is what they want to show but aren't doing. We were five and 2 of us got food 5 minutes after the others. My order was mixed up with someone else and that is not the bad part. The waiter rushed after couple of minutes to me and stared into me directly for about 1 min and asked if I already started eating, that he mixed plates with someone else and that he would change it (in corona times) so he would exchange food under two strangers not knowing if eather of us tried their food and contaminated it. Going forward, plates were setup nicely (picture) but one of two mussels was closed so not safe for eating. Someone not knowing that would need to visit a doctor next day. That is very bad for a plate of this price range. And for house wine - maybe...
Read moreTasty pizza, horrible service. The bald waiter with the mustache was rude and abrasive on multiple occasions. First when we stopped by earlier that day to ask to see a menu and make a reservation, he was unfriendly and threw the menus down onto a table next to us and walked away. When we ate there, he rolled his eyes and sighed when we were trying to place our order. When we asked for no meat, and to add mushrooms to a pizza - he aggressively told us “no” and that we were “talking too much”, while he was trying to write it down (this was the very first item we were ordering). After that, he was very dismissive and ignored our table for the rest of the evening… then had the audacity to ask whether we’d add a tip at the end. Shame, because the pizza itself was lovely. But this man ruined the atmosphere and dinner as a whole. We would not return or recommend to others...
Read moreWe went there for pizzas, and ended up with a stellar and completely different food experience. Gust is the kind of place that should be very careful not to fall into snobbery and the dreaded food-fusion hell. Right now they are doing everything right, at a reasonable price.
Dispensing with traditional fare like calamari and mixed meat, they deliver a devastating attack on your taste buds, courtesy of a creative use of trouffles, spices, oils, and whatever ingredient they've managed to get their hands on.
Another factor that really increases the experience, is that they dispense with the awful background music that is a staple of every restaurant in the area. Restaurant owners on the Adriatic coast should really understand that Rhianna whimpering in your ear doesn't improve on the ambience.
In a town full of great restaurants, Gust manages...
