Sophisticated dining meets elegant design at Cubo, an intriguing restaurant in Ljubljana, which was also the first Slovenian restaurant to publish a cookbook – and an award-winning one at that! I was ecstatic when my friends suggested a lunch meeting at Cubo, as I had never been. Immediately upon entering, I was blown away by the restaurant’s design: upscale décor with geometric, angled wood paneling and black office-style chairs. The boardroom style makes this a great place for lunch or dinner meetings, as each table feels like it has its own section.
As if the atmosphere wasn’t enough, the appetizers we shared got us excited for the main dishes. We ordered a cold appetizer of beef carpaccio with baby lettuce, apples, cheese and nuts, as well as three hot appetizers including gratinated scallops, grilled mozzarella bufala with prosciutto, and grilled king prawns, squid, and octopus with baby spinach and cherry tomatoes. The seafood was fresh, the produce flavorful, and everything grilled to perfection.
One of my friends enjoyed a sea bass fillet with grilled vegetables, while the other raved over the risotto with chicken breast fillet, zucchini, and curry. I relished in a dish of Istrian pljukanci pasta with king prawns, truffles, and porcini mushrooms, which was absolutely delicious! The taste of the prawns combined with the earthy flavor of the mushrooms was a delight to my taste buds.
No trip to Cubo is complete without partaking in that which they are famous for, which is why we just had to have dessert. Our server recommended the chocolate soufflé with vanilla custard, sorbet and white chocolate, which was top-notch. The cream roll with strawberries was just sweet enough, and perfect with a glass of sparkling wine.
Everything about Cubo was fantastic. From the look, the appeal, and the wonderful service, to the excellent food and...
Read moreEverytime I visit Cubo (mainly on business) I leave with positive feeling that everything goes so well together - perfect food, great wine selection and friendly service. This time on a family dinner (my daughter's 18) another great experience. Starting with a sip of great Sparkling Rose, Bjana and then followed with a great set of appetisers. Super smooth and properly seasoned Beef tartare, a very natural Tuna tartare and Mozzarella Buffala amazing) with tomatoes. For the main we chose stakes and added the red - very fresh Cabarnet Sauvignon, Ferdinand. The tagliata served on rucola was super tasty and soft even it was only medium rare. The beefsteak with mushrooms and home made gnocchi was splendid. And for a vegetarian - tagliatelle with truffles - super tasty - a lot of taste but not to aggressive that can happen with truffles. Finishing with coffee and only one dessert as we were to full already. And to point out - our host was Aleksander who made the evening more friendly and comfortable for everyone. Great job.
Definitely we should come here more often and for those reading - it is also one of the best places in Ljubljana to...
Read moreI live in Slovenia for 10 years now and I can tell you that this is my absolutely favorite restaurant and in Ljubljana there is nothing behing Cubo looong time. We like to go there as for business occasions, same as privat. The staffs always do everything to make it perfect from A-Z and it is for very affordable price. The food is always good, you can see that someone worked on it, not only how it is arranged on plate, but mainly taste ...someone takes care here ! Which is something I'm missing in most of slovenian restaurants, where (as I'm often saying) are not cooks but just warm-up-ers who give you salat with raw vegetable without even trying to give some basic taste to it... It is most common attitude of most of slovenian restaurant which I found as terrible. So if you want to eat very good in nice enviroment for very acceptable money, Cubo should be your definite option. Their Pavlova dessert is just awesome and their Veggie steak is just WOW...👏 But you rather make reservation or it may happen to you that there is no place for you. Not always, it happend to us once, but better...
