Writing this review at 2:35am after having lunch at this establishment around 3pm Thursday 9 January 2024.
I have never been to Ons Huisie before. I had a friend visiting from Switzerland, who wanted to have lunch near or at the beach and had heard it was a good spot. There were 3 of us and only two ate. The service wasn’t bad, except for the waiter not being able to make any recommendations - as the menu is quite large.as well as never checking in to see if we were enjoying the food. Had he done so we would have complained.
I chose a burger and my friend had the fish. My swiss friends fish was oil soaked as it was deep fried in batter. She had to scrape all the batter off. My burger looked good but after the first bite I noticed it was cold inside and raw. The only warm part was the basting. We did not complain as Our waiter was nowhere to be seen, and we did not have time to send the food back and wait for replacements. My onion rings tasted like fish, which I don’t really eat. The food was not unreasonably priced, as should be due topography quality.
We both felt rather green after the meal. The kitchen looked dirty and so were the toilettes. The whole place is unkempt. I was quite frankly appalled at the terrible food at a venue that has such a stunning location. I was very ashamed of our town.
We are both battling with nausea and tummy upsets. The reason I’m writing this review.
Do better. You have such a wonderful location. Your food is very poor. Almost inedible and has caused us both to be ill as mentioned. I would give no stars if I could. I do not know what the meal cost as my...

Read moreA Stern Warning to Locals and Tourists: Prepare for an Unprecedented Experience! I must express my dismay in the strongest terms possible regarding my recent visit to Onse Huisie. I endured an excruciating wait of 1 hour and 40 minutes for my meal, a duration that is simply unacceptable. Their excuse? They had hosted a sizeable function upstairs. But here's the kicker, folks - this is the kind of treatment they subject their loyal locals to! The flagship Potjie signature dish, which I had eagerly anticipated, was served unceremoniously on a plate. What's worse, the kitchen staff exhibited a sheer lack of motivation, as they neglected to clean the Potjie pot they serve this in. Meanwhile, I watched as the dinner party that had arrived long after us promptly departed, leaving us still languishing without our food. As if that weren't bad enough, I decided to order a takeaway, only to discover that the fish was served raw. This, my friends, is the epitome of culinary incompetence. Yes, I must concede that the view and sunset were nothing short of breath-taking, and our dedicated waitress tried her utmost to salvage the evening. However, the same cannot be said for management. Useless and utterly incompetent, they are clearly unconcerned with customer satisfaction. Do yourself a favour and spare your hard-earned money from Onse Huisie, for it will surely lead to nothing but profound disappointment. The views and splendid sunsets are simply not worth the torment you will endure. Beware, fellow diners, and choose your dining destinations wisely!...
