This was a lovely restaurant experience. We half didn’t expect the play area to be there because it looks like a very “grown up” restaurant from the front. The play area itself is a bit small but it’s enough to keep little kids entertained. They also provided our kids with some colouring pages which was great. The only down side would be that the kids can get quite rowdy and the big kids tend to be quite mean towards the younger ones. There is a board stating children need to be supervised at all times however, so that might be a failing on our part as parents. The tables are however close enough to see the play area. The food was delightful. We had small meals which were quite satisfying. Our drinks were good. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Overall a lovely dining experience.

If friendliness could be packaged and served medium to rare with a side of good service The eatery would be the place to find it. The overall warm embrace as you walk into the restaurant is overwhelming. With the sweet aroma or of pertly cooked meat gently teasing your senses and guiding your tastebuds to the sweet nectar it so deserves. The food was delicious and cooked to the utmost perfection with a range of choices and flavours to explore yet never overwhelming you with menu options. I had the pork ribs witch please me to the core. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it.

We booked for their date night special for R325 per couple and boy were we blown away!

We were welcomed with 2 complimentary drinks. So I chose the Miss Molly MCC. My husband isn't a big drinker and was driving, so I took one for the team and had both...lol

We then ordered the yummiest chilli poppers with berry sauce, which I would never thought of putting with it, but I was pleasantly surprised. This wasn't part of their date night special (just a fyi).

We then had the 400g wood fire-grilled Sirloin to share with a diane sauce, chips (you each get a very generous bowl) and a salad to share. I could have eaten the salad by myself - and I don't eat salad as it is usually the same boring generic salad at restaurants, but not here.

My husband ordered the cheesecake and I ordered the Churros. I don't think I have ever understood the term of your eyes rolling to the back of your head, until now. Often if I order them, they are either oily or not completely cooked through. These were light and crispy.

As if that all blew us way, we had the privilege to be served by Nicole. My husband ordered a coke, but they had not got cold enough yet, which is totally understandable. She preempted and bought a coke and a diet coke for my husband. That shows the difference in staff here.

Nicole was just the right amount of attentive and we had great banter with her that made us not feel like just any old customer.

I forgot to mention that we arrived quite late and obviously the staff had to clean and prep for the next day, so the kitchen was closed. I wanted the churros and when I asked and realised it was closed, Nicole said it was not a problem and arranged it.

I said we could leave it, but she assured me it was quick and not a problem. Honestly, if you ever book there, ask for her, you won't be disappointed.

Everything tied together to be a very memorable date night thanks to the Eatery Wood Fired Grill and Nicole.

We will...

The Eatery works hard to provide an Oasis in the South and for most part it is a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is inviting and cosy and the midday noise from the Belvedere road is forgivable. The waitron was cheerful and accommodating and set the tone nicely. The restaurant sells itself as an over the fire dining experience or that’s the impression I got from the menu but it doesn’t lean into this as a marketing resource. Now, we ordered what I believe are staples for an over the fire menu. A chicken wing starter and loaded fries with steak. Essentially a street food offering, ( try Salt and Pepper steak truck at access park trucks). However the meal was over priced at 165 and the steak was unseasoned. The fat didn’t render and the fries were soggy and cold, laden with a bland quick mix cheese sauce. My medium rare looked like medium, perhaps because the grill man cooked a budget Sirloin cut like a rump cut. With the Grand kids’ uninspiring kids meals we spent 832 tip included and for half the price I can do much better. South Africans have learnt to accept mediocre offerings from trendy spots because the spots trade off brand marketing as opposed to taste and consistency. The Eatery will not be a return dining...

Tried go for Sunday lunch at around 14:30. Waiter welcomed us in (Myself and partner) and asked us the usual questions, table for two and proceeded to show us to our seats.

Whilst doing this, an aggressive waiter yelled from further inside the establishment "Dude, only after 3PM! We can't serve them!" he screamed that to the waiter and then the waiter stopped in his tracks, and abandoned his current task of showing us to our seats.

The waiter then told us exactly what the rude waiter shouted "We cannot serve you now as we are too full" he said with an extremely uncomfortable smile on his face - as if we did not hear Mr Rude waiter yell that exact thing. So comical.

We then had to stop in our tracks, and were escorted out of the establishment. Felt like we were shoplifters or something. Rather embarrassing and disappointing.

While anyone can understand that when a place reaches capacity, thats that. But Perhaps communicate this to all staff so everyone is on the same page, it was not cool being welcomed in and taken to a table and then chased away.

You need to learn some very basic &...
