Absolutely LOVE Roma Revolving Resturant! I think this is the best fine dining restaurant left in Durban and has maintained it's excellence and service. The service is impeccable and through this I will keep coming back and supporting this amazing establishment throughout my life (even for the delicious food). I commend the following people, to Gino (one of the owner's) you have always given my husband and I your attention to detail and pleasant presence at the restaurant. You have provided your undivided attention at every visit and your love for food shows through your explanations of the ingredients and preparation of ROMA's mouthwatering meals. Gino you make ROMA feel like home and I thank you. Secondly to the pastry Chef, Gordon, you are a humble and exceptional human being. Your pastries are to die for and combine that with your service I am absolutely thankful that after 39 years nothing has changed. You are a rare breed of Chef's and I wish every restaurant had someone like you. Thank you for making my every experience at ROMA special. Another commendment goes out to Johnson, even though you were not serving our table you made sure that we were seen to and served us without hesitation. People like you all make an establishment what it is, always with a smile and your utmost effort. Thank you to everyone at ROMA Revolving Restaurant you will always be my first choice and I will recommend you to anyone. No matter where I am in life I will return and support you and your exceptional staff! Now let's get to the food, you will never go wrong, I have been here a few times and the food was always at first class quality! The atmosphere is great with the Italian music which sets the mood with breathtaking views of the Durban Harbour at day or at night you will never be disappointed. Sometimes you do get a very noisy crowd but due to the nature of the seating you might never be affected by it. I am happy that this is the only place in Durban that maintains their atmosphere as it should be for the price you pay. I have been to other fine dining establishments which were twice or maybe 3 times more expensive with pathetic service, no attention to detail and felt like I was at a fish market. ROMA was told when we were seated that it was my birthday and on the spot they made my visit special unlike other fine dining places who completely did nothing even when told weeks in advance. So ROMA you are my favorite including your staff. You all make this Restaurant to the standard I...

We really did our best to try to enjoy the experience. All in all it was a beautiful space with great views. The waiting staff were courteous and friendly and gave us great service. The establishment itself has seen better days but that's to be expected with an older restaurant, so not so pristine finishings and dishes can be forgiven. The problem for us lay mainly in the security of the venue and the food. Firstly it should be noted that there is apparently more secure parking, however this was not evident to us nor mentioned by any visible signage or the security guards themselves. So our experience, walking in and out of a very dark and isolated street level parking area was very daunting and unpleasant. It started and ended our night with unease and very high anxiety that we may be robbed/ mugged/highjacked.

Now the food. Which should have been our highlight was the absolute most disappointing meal I've had in recent years. The plating and presentation was little more than a pile of food, the portions were sad and drenched in oil or unknown liquids, the taste was probably the worst part and had us entirely wasting our Crayfish soup which was so fishy and salty it could have been ocean water from harbour. The ravioli was bland and tasted doey and covered in nuts which did not pair well. The prawns however were excellently prepared, tasty and fell off the shells so that was a win, however the sides were limp, overcooked, discolored brown vegetables that we couldn't force down. The other pleasant dish was a mushroom starter which was very tasty and surprised us cause the presentation looked really poor with a lump of mash and the mushroom perched on top.

All in all, I was quite disappointed with my 1st and highly anticipated visit to Roma Revolving. Again, the staff and views were great, but the food and presentation were a let down and I honestly can't say i would pay to eat there again. Also, enquire about parking if you intend to go, do not park infront...

As I mentioned into the email to the restaurant, I don't complain about much in life as I know things happen.

A few things happened tonight. Firstly we booked a few days in advance for 3:30pm, arrive 3:30, get told at 3:40 that the kitchen closes at 4, starters went out the window in that moment. Secondly- about half the meals arrived first, about 25 minutes later the rest arrived. When they started arriving, the first steak that arrived had veg, they had asked for chips, we were told once the meal arrived that they cant make chips because of load shedding. Fully understandable however the waiter did not discuss this with us until the food started arriving. Thirdly - we had asked if load shedding effects the restaurant prior to coming through and was told it doesn't. Clearly it did if we could not get what we ordered. Lastly- one person ordered ice cream, to get the bowl and notice green stuff under it, seemed to be spinach, nothing major it happens, to then proceed to find the spinach under the ice cream.

1- The communication from the waiters is poor 2- The booking person should know about load shedding, load Shedding is not new to us so there is no excuse 3- The booking person not telling us we would have 30 minutes to order before the kitchen closes 4- the dirty dish underneath is fine but inside under the ice cream is terrible.

Below is a photo of the handful of chips they could give me, however I would have preferred the veg instead of them scraping a few chips together. This was not discussed with me but rather the meal was brought to me like that. Lets be honest the pricing isn't the cheapest so you expect the food to be of good quality, instead I got a make a plan meal.

I look forward to another trip there as the restaurant itself is great and i hope to have a better...

My first experience at Roma was a pleasant one. As a vegan, I literally had 3 options presented to me, a salad, chips and napolitana sauce pasta. I opted for the salad and pasta. We had arrived with a party of 10, our food got out around 15 minutes which I thought was pretty quick... Maybe a little too quick but then the menu wasn't too complicated to cook up. Everyone gobbled down their dishes with great gusto, including myself, I was hungry. My vegan salad and pasta were okay... I could have made it at home in a couple minutes and I'm not a great cook. Some dishes do offer some flare such as the châteaubriand which was prepared tableside and the dessert cart which is rolled alongside the table for you to choose whatever is tickling your fancy. The decor is outdated and the lighting was spotty at times. It would get pretty dark at some spots as the floor is revolving. The only reason this restaurant is still around after some 40 odd years is the view. The good lord had blessed these Italians in 1973 and given them one of the best locations in Durban. It's situated on the 32nd floor of John Ross House which offers sweeping views of the city and harbour. You'd sooner forget what you're eating when you look out the huge glass windows. The city is beautiful and this restaurant allows you to take it all in at one sitting. All-in-all, service was good. I wouldn't be rushing back an time soon but it's an experience every Durbanite should have.
