To South Africa and Beyond — A Curry Lover’s Tale Hi everyone, my name is Tyren. I was born in KZN and now live in Johannesburg with my lovely wife. I travel across South Africa for work, and no matter where I go, curry is my staple — at home and on the road.
Today, I'm back in East London and with the cold weather rolling in, curry was a must. My colleague, who also enjoys a good curry, and I caught a 6:15 AM flight from Johannesburg (freezing, by the way!) and landed in Port Elizabeth, where we picked up our company vehicle and made the drive to East London.
Along the way, hunger kicked in. We both instantly agreed: Curry on the Beach — our go-to spot from a previous trip when Mr. Krish was around. It didn’t disappoint then, and it didn’t disappoint today.
For lunch, we went light with the chicken roti, accompanied by some hot vinegar chillies — a perfect warm-up. But we didn’t stop there! We each ordered takeaway for supper.
My colleague had the lamb and rice and loved every bite.
I opted for the lamb bunny and was blessed by Esther, who kindly packed it DIY-style.
At 18:30, I put it together — and wow — it was absolutely awesome.
For both of us, Curry on the Beach in East London is now officially our top curry spot in SA. Every time we're here, this is our home.
To all curry lovers — trust me, this is the place to be when you're in East London. Mr. Krish, sorry we missed you (heard you ran the Comrades Marathon — respect!), but we’ll see you soon.
Big thanks to Esther and the Curry on the Beach team. See you all again soon!
Much love and...

They made me feel right at home. I treated myself to a lamb bunnychow, and from the first bite, the theme of being at home continued. Krish and Esther don't try to compete with the restaurants in Durban, the bunnychow capital. Instead, they keep the flavors authentic and unique to Curry On Beach. To me, this is the winning recipe for a great and enjoyable dish. I had to visit again before heading back to Jozi. I will definitely recommend Curry On Beach to anyone visiting or passing through East London. Thank you, Krish...
