Eddie Macs @ VP — Restaurant in Eastern Cape

We visited Eddie Mac's for about the seventh time on a sunday lunchtime. Our previous visits I would have rated 4 or 5. But this time, not so good.

The booths were not spaced according to Covid regulations. Our waitress was not wearing a mask.

My mother (87) asked for a glass of milk as her drink. Waitron said they couldn't do that, because they only have powdered milk! It's true that milk is not on the menu, but every other restaurant, bar one, has been able to accommodate her.

My steak was good, but didn't have black pepper that I could taste. No problem? No, the waitron said they didn't have a pepper grinder. I pointed out that the dish is described on the menu as having mustard and black pepper sauce. After a little while they did bring me a little jug with black pepper.

My wife's vegetables were cold, as in from the fridge. Her lamb shank was very tasty though, and they did microwave the vegetables.

We went for the Eisbein special and beer on Tap. And we got great food at a great bargain with pleasant live bluesy music and fine beer in tao. However, this is a smokey pub and the service was slow, although friendly, and the fish eaters among us were disappointed. So: I rate this 4 star for what I was looking for. A great Eisbein with great sauerkraut with chips and veg included, plus Windhoek, castle lite, Back label and some others on tap at an excellent price. There are other great specials like 1kg Ribs and beer during the week. So check the deals out and this is your place. If the evening is fair you could sit at the picnic benches on the veranda.

As always, Eddie Macs is what it is, a local eat, drink, meet mates and have a affordable get together. Nothing special to rave about, nothing bad to critasize - truely a reasoable place in many ways. Foods good, music good, enviroment good, smoking and non smoking area, clean air, often sport practice or match,s taking place on the fields. Your kids can play outside bring a ball or bat they can be seen, watched. You can sit inside, outside lounge or patio and if you wish you can sit in a dingie dark bar, smoke filled area set aside for that. Slot machines available. I like Eddie Macs, great venue place, great spend a rainy day place but not take my new girlfriend out first...
