News Cafe Witbank — Restaurant in Emalahleni Local Municipality

For an establishment with the reputation of News Cafe, this branch was disappointing. The service was insanely slow, even though the place was only about 25% full. I ordered their Traditional Breakfast, but it arrived without the advertised Bacon. My Waitron dashed off before I could bring this to her attention. I waited to see if she came back but she didn't, so I ate it without the Bacon. When she collected my plate, I mentioned that there was no Bacon. She did apologise but stated that the kitchen must have forgotten about it because they were so busy! Poor excuse when the place is almost empty! On the positive side, I found the venue outside relaxing next to the water & it was nice & quiet. The food was OK, but not outstanding. To be honest, Wimpy breakfasts are better value for money. R92.00 for what you get on their Traditional Breakfast is expensive, especially when they forget the Bacon! The coffee at the end was excellent & is the reason I gave them 3 stars and not 2! Terrible experience upon arrival. Had one stuck up dark skinned zulu security who refused to let me in because of my outfit. Mind you I'm old enough and there's other women in mini skirts, but he chose to come for my pants which he deemed to be "too revealing". Luckily there was a a gentleman at the entrance who was kind enough to lend me his jacket and made a deal with the security guy that I would cover up. This is my regular stopover joint for my trips between Mpumalanga where I work and my home in Pietermaritzburg. The staff is always friendly and attentive from the moment you intend stepping into the restaurant. The food has been very good and they listen to any specific needs even if they alter the dish a bit. The only negetive I can talk about is the a bit below par bathroom cleaniliness , if they can get this right the experience could be even greater.
