Caramello's — Restaurant in Free State

What an experience at Caramello's Preller Square Bloemfontein! We arrive at 18:10 after work to enjoy a nice pasta dish, while we enter we see a server packing up the chairs, we asked for a place to sit but was greeted with a "We are closed," even though their hours stipulate that they are open until 19:00. I politely asked to speak to the manager. We walked in and found the manager at a booth on her cellphone, clearly enjoying her life and the salary she receives. I asked politely if they are open and was replied with a "Our Kitchen Closes At 18:30, So Only If It Is A Emergency." I decided to compose myself and rather go to somewhere where a customer is appreciated. Why post your hours on Google when you decide when you close? I think that 50 minutes is rather enough to prepare at least a mediocre meal? Caramello's please ensure that you update your hours before people drive to only find the person in charge...

We had the Eggs Benedict and asked for soft eggs. The poached egg white was under-cooked and the yellow overcooked. After sending back and receiving the same again, we found out that they make the poached eggs in the microwave. At R89, they shouldn't be giving you "cheat" or "lazy" poached eggs. The breakfast consists of 1 slice rye bread, halved with 2 poached eggs, quality ham and cheese, 2 cherry tomatoes and hollandaise sauce. Hardly worth it if they are not using the proper method of preparing the poached egg. Really disappointed that we couldn't get the runny yellow - the favorite part of any breakfast with eggs. The only compliment that I had, was for the waiter, Sandile. Despite being a unhappy client, he still treated us well and didn't change his soft and kind manner. I love going here!!

But I always walk in first to decide if I should choose this restaurant or not - because it often smells of cigarette smoke. On more than one occassion I have left because the smell hits one as you walk inside.

That's the only reason I walk out, which I've done a few times. Based on previous good experience I go back there because I'd like to be there but again, have left a few times because of the smell.

It's a nice place with lovely staff who are friendly, welcoming and attentive. I've not had any negative experiences with any of them, any restaurant would be lucky to have them. Coffee and cake selection is delicious. Meals also large...
