Ocean Basket Fleurdal — Restaurant in Free State

We love Ocean Basket. We went there this week for our wedding anniversary, the restaurant was not busy as it was a week night. We were there just after 18:00. By after 19:00 we felt extremely rushed to finish as they could close early if we did in fact leave early, which was communicated to us. Menu’s were taken away, even though we wanted to order a shooter. And by the way, we ordered starters, drinks and a main meal. We wanted to order desserts, but did not feel welcome to do so. (Our server was friendly however) We are disappointed that our anniversary was spent at Ocean basket Fleurdal. We felt like it was a problem being there and being the only people in the restaurant. If the restaurant is full or if you only have one table, treat every night the same. 2 clients are just as important as a full house. Maybe Loch Logan...

One thing I like about the place is its settings. One pretty much has a choice about where to sit and the place is never crowded, even pre COVID-19 era. Personal preferences are pretty much catered for. Customer service is excellent. They also have a great chef and the food is well prepared. There is a quiet a variety of sea food to choose from. I also like their music, laid back and often takes one down the memory lane. If you just want a relaxed evening and simply to slow down from the crowded streets of life, this is the place to chill out at, particularly in the evenings. The problem is with doggy backs though, please ensure before you leave the restaurant that everything is packed in the take aways. Otherwise the place is quite a treat and always remember to tip the waiters...

Some of our order was very tasty and others were disappointing. The taste of the dorado was absolutely delicious and well made, however for the steep price of R175, the portion of fish could have been a bit bigger. Chips were good. Grilled calamari was lack lustre, the appearance was pale and food arrived cold. The waiter got one of sushi orders wrong and we ended up ordering a new plate instead of sending the other one back as we didn’t want it to affect his pocket, but he could have paid better attention. The halloumi cheese is always my favourite, and other Ocean Basket’s have made it much better. This was very chewy instead of soft (maybe not as fresh?). Overall it as “good” but...
