Cappuccino’s Smoking Section Removed – Impact on Customers & Business

I am disappointed with the removal of Cappuccino’s well-ventilated, enclosed smoking section, which was not just about smoking, but about choice, fairness, and business impact.

This was a fully enclosed section within the restaurant, clearly marked as a smoking area. To enter, customers walked through a door into a separate space that had two large windows, an aircon, and a back door—ensuring proper ventilation and complete separation from non-smokers. It was designed to provide a comfortable space for everyone without interfering with non-smoking patrons. So why was it removed?

The reality is that many restaurants continue to operate with little to no ventilation, yet they remain unaffected by such restrictions. Meanwhile, a place that invested in proper separation and air circulation has had its smoking section taken away. If the space was legally compliant, well-ventilated, and caused no inconvenience to others, why was it necessary to remove it?

I am a regular at Cappuccino’s, and many others are too—coming in daily for meetings, lunch, socialising, or to get some work done. This was a bustling section where people could gather and enjoy their time without interrupting non-smokers, as it was fully enclosed. The freedom to sit in a designated, ventilated space—separate from non-smokers—was something many valued.

Now, that choice has been taken away, and its removal affects both customers and the business itself. On busy days, weekends, and evenings, this section was always in demand, and shutting it down not only impacts customer experience but also reduces the restaurant’s revenue. Now, not only does the business lose income, but customers who relied on this space no longer have that option.

A one-size-fits-all approach ignores the fact that Cappuccino’s had already implemented the necessary measures to accommodate everyone fairly. Removing an area that followed all necessary health and ventilation regulations feels unnecessary and unfair.

Cappuccinos at Southdowns remains one of my absolute go-to spots when it comes to a consistent, feel-good dining experience. Whether you're there for a quick bite or a full sit-down meal, it never disappoints. Great food, beautiful outdoor views, and friendly staff make this branch a standout.

Their pizza, cocktails, and seafood are highly recommended — always fresh, flavourful, and perfectly prepared. The Monday pizza special is an absolute must-try: wood-fired, crisp-edged, and loaded with generous toppings. It’s the kind of weekly ritual you’ll start to look forward to. Their cocktails are refreshing and well-balanced, and the seafood dishes hit that sweet spot of being hearty yet elegant.

The staff here are always on point — friendly, efficient, and genuinely attentive. From greeting to payment, the experience feels smooth and welcoming. Even when it's busy, the service is fast, and you never feel like you're being kept waiting.

The outdoor seating area is a definite bonus. You can enjoy your meal with lovely views of the surrounding area, which adds to the relaxed and scenic vibe. Whether you're dining solo, catching up with friends, or enjoying a family dinner, the setting is perfect.

Inside, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, striking a good balance between lively and cosy. Time tends to fly here — a great sign that the experience is seamless and enjoyable.

All in all, Cappuccinos Southdowns gets a solid thumbs up for great food, top-tier service, and a setting that’s both convenient and charming. It’s definitely one of those places that keeps you coming back — and I’m already planning...

Cuppachino's! What an amazing dining experience. I have visited Southdowns Cuppachino's numerous times now, and I have not once been disappointed 😀. The staff is very welcoming, the food is of the best quality in South Africa, every meal has its own unique taste and look, all meals are prepared freshly (and with love - I know it, because I taste it). Waiters are on top of the menu, knowing the specials by heart and the menu to a tee. They are extremely professional and friendly. Management is always visible and maintain only the best quality food and service. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing and cozy. Parking is close to the venue with car guards until late. The bathrooms are very clean and maintained the entire time. There is absolutely nothing negative about Southdowns Cuppachino's and I definitely put them in my Top 5 dining experiences in South Africa. Thank you Cuppachino's for your excellent product! P.S. Your food, staff, and entire restaurant will make Gordon Ramsey a very happy man! Well done 👏...
