Absolutely ruined birthday lunch . Shocking experience . Booking went well, Ngobi got it for us. He offered a table on the patio over the phone , which we accepted . Little did we knew that although I asked for a quiet table , out of the way , I was given probably one of the busiest tables in the establishment . People bumping permanently into our chairs , patrons and waiters alike. To the extent where my 8year old who's birthday is today got beer on his back and on his chair from the permanent transit . I didn't complained . Ordered the food and the birthday boy wants the flapjack stack . It's described on the menu as flapjack layers (sic) with mascarpone , strawberries and drizled syrup . What he got , were 2 flapjacks , some white substance supposed to be the mascarpone , a tumbler of cut unripped strawberries ( literally maybe 2 strawberries, totally unripped and inedible) and enough syrup for 4 kids . Back to the flapjacks, they came cold , dry a burned . I have pictures of such . Initially I just asked for some riped strawberries if possible , but after tasting the cardboard like of so called flapjacks I decided to send them back . Ordered something else , let's try a burger . Specifically asked the waiter (Faith) to bring him and adult burger ( NOT from the kids menu ) without garnish ( pickle, mayonnaise, etc) done in basting well but not burned , in the bun and nothing else . Now Faith takes initiative and brings him a kiddie burger , undercooked , dry , cold , no basting , with chips . I asked why ? She replies that doesn't matter, irrespective if it's a normal ( adult size ) burger or a kiddies one , the patty is the same. Which is concerning since the kiddies burger cost R 82 and the adult burger is R125. That is a ripoff to start with. A difference of R 43 just for being and adult . Or for the sauce or gerkin. Unacceptable to be punished because you are an adult . In any event, although I have ordered the adult size burger for my son, she takes the liberty to bring the kiddies one which I . Now I'm upset , because everyone is eating but the birthday boy has nothing to eat. I sent the burger back and ordered another one trough Eric , the manager which was polite about the while thing but honestly that is not sufficient, is not filling up my child's stomach. Eventually we canceled. My wife pizza , Africana. Is described as babotie mince with tomato salsa , chilli and creme fraiche . What she got was mince, coriander ( sic !) , no chilli and a sprinkle of diced tomato masquerading as a salsa . We just asked for some chilli , she's been given another tumbler of some chilli concoction ( tasty but full of oil , NOT fresh chilli ) During lunch , the speakers above our head have been fully blasted , for a checkup .They apologized. Maybe patrons are lenient , maybe the owners think they are running a successful business by numbers , which judging by the cheap ingredients used, and the quality of the food is possible. I mean R43 charged for the same item just because you're an adult multiplied times x? brings profits for sure . I've been 15 years in the same business ( restaurant ) and we had dificcult tables, I'm sure we made mistakes , but this could have been avoided if they will care more . My wrap was OK, same the other pizzas and orders at the table . But my 8 year old ( and it was all about him ) left hungry and upset . The waiter ( Faith ) came with 2 scoops of ice cream with chocolate sauce , sang on a low voice more adequate for a cry , Happy birthday by herself and that's the story . A 10% off the bill was taken off ( without us requesting it ) and the items considered food which we sent back were taken of the bill. I don't need freebies I don't want to be contacted, I don't want us to go back . Ever . Hundred of good restaurants in Sandton alone , and although this one is 500m from our house , is not worth the pain and ruining a 8year old child's birthday . But we learn from our mistakes I suppose and the kids must also learn . Pathetic is a gentle...
Read moreI am an avid supporter of Milk bar, or should I say was after my experience at Milk bar this past friday. I went for dinner with some mates and my one mate complained to the waiter about his beer being flat, to which she responded he always complains and brought up how he had previously complained about mayo being put on his pizza a few weeks back. Why as a paying customer can we not complain ? The worst part of it all was our waiter grouped up with other waiters at the table next to us and they all proceeded to talk rubbish about us [5 of them] and when I confronted them about it they all acted ignorant and clueless and asked what was said. They all then approached our table when I had confronted them and the waiters began to scream at us and make a whole spectacle in front of the whole restaurant. The one waitress also began to get in my face like she wanted to fight which was odd. The waiters then went back to stand next to the table and continued to talk rubbish about us AGAIN, so I confronted them again because we could clearly hear them talking about us and making remarks towards us- They proceeded to ask what they supposedly had said about us to which I repeated the remarks they were making, they were all shocked that I was able to repeat the remarks they were making about us and they were stumped, they then swarmed our table again and began screaming at us, they called the bouncer over as some sort of intimidation tactic and the manager also approached us to which he also handled the situation poorly aside from replacing the flat beer. I am disgusted by the staff at Milk bar and I will not be supporting them anytime soon in the future. Shame on those waiters who did such a great job of ruining Milk bars reputation and embarrassing the establishment not only in front of us but for other patrons that were there to witness. Disgusting, all because a flat beer was complained about. If you are looking for a restaurant with terrible customer service and waitresses that make remarks about you and get in your face and try fight you when you complain about a flat beer then Milk bar is the perfect...
Read moreExcellent spot for a hassle free, family friendly party. Staff are friendly and reliable. We have had an adult and kids party here with great success.
Books a table and pre-order food and drinks to be on the table when guests arrive. They also allow you to bring your own birthday cake, which is super.
The disappointing dow side is that they don't really have any gluten free options. You can have the artichoke salad or a plain half chicken, bit that is not catering to gluten free, keto, paleo or banting, salads just happen to not have gluten in. I would think that the restaurant adjacent to an sport club would focus on providing a greater variety lifestyle oriented meals or at least include some options into their pizza / pasta menu or offer hand cut sweet potato chips etc.
All in all, I'm almost certainly going back, as the girls love the face painting and play area and we love...
