So, so happy that Surasang has opened close by. I can now get my Korean fix easily with a short drive and quick service. We’ve already been here a couple of times.
Surasang means meals served for the king and queen and the food here definitely matches up to the name.
Surasang is set up as a typical Korean BBQ / hotpot restaurant with grill plates on every table. However, the first time we visited they were full and had to give us a table outside which did not have a grill plate. They said that the kitchen could grill whatever we wanted and serve it directly. The grilled meat from the kitchen is so much saucier and tastier, that we now ask for our BBQ to be grilled in the kitchen, every time.
To start with their mandu - fried dumplings are excellent, as is the Korean Fried chicken (volcano is our preference - it’s the hottest version, but it’s very mild heat for our palates)
I personally love a good bibimbap with its lightly crisped bottom, so I’ve still not got around to trying their ramen. The bibimbap at Surasang is vegetarian with an egg and comes with an accompanying soup and sauce. I love pairing it with one of the grilled meats - my favourite is a toss up between the pork galbi and the beef bulgogi. The grilled meats come with lettuce and other accompaniments to turn them into wraps. We’ve loved every kimchi or side that we have been served here.
We managed to try the bingsu at one of our meals. The shaved ice is a lot for a dessert in winter, but would be an excellent choice in the summer.
They do serve some wines and other alcohol. My brother tried the Korean wine on one visit, but I tend to stick to the hot yuja tea in this weather.
Surasang has become a firm favourite and I see ourselves returning...
Read moreWe decided to try something new for our anniversary dinner and chose Surasang primarily because of the location, positive reviews & menu
We ordered the steak and bulgogi BBQ's. The side plates that came with the meal were very tasty in isolation. We ordered Ramen as well - which was flavorful but slightly overcooked. The bulgogi was delicious, although the portion size was small considering the price. The steak was quite bland - perhaps we were supposed to add spice or seasoning of some kind but there was very little to no guidance given by our waitress to explain how to best season the steak or which plates best compliment each other. Rice was similar to sushi-rice but ours was a bit stickier.
Overall, considering the price the value was okay. If you are someone with a large apatite then I advise you prepare to spend a little more on the starters and extra rice/ramen as the BBQ main course is unlikely to leave you totally satiated. If you are someone who is usually apprehensive to new experiences I would suggest you start with another dish as I cannot say the BBQ was excellent value for money - despite the unique experience
Our waitress' service was okay, but as mentioned she didn't ask if we had a Korean dining experience before. The manager was very friendly.
Ambience was fairly standard, nothing special nor anything particularly upsetting. Location is based in a small mall. Our table was overlooking the car-park and had a view of some city lights and the hill in the distance
Would likely return to Surasang to try other items on the menu, but unlikely to order...

Speaking of the dishes, they were out of this world! We opted for the cook-for-yourself option, and let me tell you, it was an absolute delight. The owner guided us through the preparation process, offering valuable tips and insights along the way. From marinating the meats to grilling them to perfection, every step was a culinary adventure.
And the taste? Well, let's just say it exceeded all expectations. Each bite was bursting with flavor, perfectly balanced and utterly delicious. From the tender bulgogi to the crispy kimchi pancakes, every dish was a masterpiece in its own right.
