We have eaten at Mozambik in Sunninghill about 5 times and the experience is very average. I am personally not a fan, but my family likes to go there. The service is always poor. A few months ago we dined with some friends. There were 10 of us. The service is slow and the preparation of the meals is longer. On that occasion, after an hour long wait, 9 meals arrived. After querying my order was placed and arrived after everyone else had finished eating.
We visited again today with a group of 9. The service was worse than usual. We had to ask the waiter multiple times for ice. He kept going away and not returning with any. We were served warm drinks. The restaurant was not that busy. There are either more or as many managers as there are waiters. The managers stand around doing nothing to assist if waiters are busy. In fact they look away if you call them. My meal was not prepared well, as always. Half of my chicken ( and my sons) was raw. We ordered well done. I sent it to be grilled again. When it returned it was in a side plate. I told the waiter that I sent it back with my rice. He said that he will get me some. He came back twice to check if I really sent back some rice. The manager came to bring me a small bowl of rice. But before he gave it to me he just wanted to confirm if I really sent back my chicken with rice. I was really offended. They were double checking and triple checking to see if I was trying to score some plain rice for free. I told the manager to take the rice back. I even told them to dispose of the half of my meal that was recooked as I don't want a take away as I will never eat food from Mozambik again. Read moreOn Thursday 14 December we visited Mozambik Sunninghill as we often do. As usual the waiters and food were great however there was an experience so bad that we decided never to go there again. There was a piece of equipment in the play area that was damaged over a year ago. When I complained about it (over a year ago), I was told that it was going to be addressed immediately. It always bothered us, but we always reminded our kids not to go near the broken equipment and took it for granted that they would heed the warning. (Probably wrongly so). On Thursday we were disturbed by a shreaking scream of a child. Upon rushing to the play area along with other parents we found someone's child hanging from his neck from the damaged piece of equipment. Thankfully he seemed to be ok other than being severely traumatized after we carried him off. Later in the evening during a casual conversation with the manager his attitude to the whole incident was competely nonchalant. I mentioned that the issue could become quite serious if the parent takes things further. His exact response was "Well it's fine we will see about that" in an almost intimidating tone. This is what tipped things over the edge for me. I understand that everyone takes kids to play areas at their own risk but this was an unacceptable attitude towards an incident that occured on a piece of equipment that has been broken for over a year.
It did make me question whether his attitude to health and safety in the kitchen was equally nonchalant.
As a family I know that we will never ever return to this restaurant while under the same management even if they offered me a lifetime of free meals. The image of a little child hanging from their neck is not easy to erase from...
Read moreI have placed a phone take away order today (19-Apr-2024 4:10pm) at the Sunninghill Branch for: 2 x Steak Pregos 1 x Chicken Livers & Calamari.
At the time of placing the order, my order was accepted. I then received a phone call from the branch advising that they could not fullfill my entire order due there only being 1 steak prego available. (This was approximately 5 mins before collecting my order i.e. 20 mins later) I then had to substitute my order for a chicken prego.
My gripe however, is that post collecting my order, the steak prego was available to order via the Uber Eats app, and was available.
I cannot fathom for the life of me that on your busiest time I.e a weekend, ingredients are not available to order.
I have not received sufficient customer service from both staff and branch management at Sunninghill, and merely just received a "sorry" reply. This is unacceptable, as my order was accepted, yet did not receive what I ordered.
There's serious mismanagement at the Sunninghill branch, and kindly implore that franchise management look into this matter to hopefully restore the reputation of Mozambik of what it really should be.
I been a lifelong customer of Mozambik since the days of Ballito and various other branches I.e. Randpark ridge and edenvale.
Trust this matter will be resolved, and prevent further bad customer experiences will be mitigated in future. Not just for myself, but all other customers frequenting this branch.
