We decided to try The Old Rose for lunch on Sunday. The parking was easy and convenient. When entering we were told that only pub type table and stools were available. However a four chair table was soon readied and we were soon comfortably seated. A clean table cloth and decent utensils and cutlery made us feel welcome. The place is well named as it has a very typical English pub decor and relaxed atmosphere. On Sundays the roast is available with roast beef and/or pork accompanied by crackling, Yorkshire pudding and gravy with vegetables with the correct English sauces and dressing. A variety of drinks including cold draught beer was on the menu. The food was delicious. The pub had a pleasant vibe with suitable soft pleasant music and sports tv. The waiter who has served there for many years was friendly and attentive but not annoyingly so. The price was reasonable. To sum up we enjoyed the meal and will certainly be calling there again.

An old fashioned English Pub in the Northern Suburbs of Johannesburg. If you have English/Irish/Scottish blood, you will feel right at home. For others you will feel at home too and can hear the beautiful twangs of Scottish and Irish speakers. This is a casual pub, also referred to as “a local” for a lot of their patrons. There is a decent selection of beers and other alcoholic drinks. Although not a big premium selection if you’re looking for that. They also offer classic pub style food, including a proper Sunday roast with meat and two veg. Think Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, meat, peas, carrots. The food was under seasoned as per my palate. But other patrons didn’t have that problem. Service is mostly good, and is a happy place for families and even single diners to have a good meal, watch sports, and have a few drinks. Food and drinks are well priced and will not break your bank. Definitely recommended.

The Old Rose is exactly what the name describes. It's an old English pub in the heart of Petervale. The fish and chips i had there was unreal. They make a perfectly thick and crispy batter. The fish portion was extremely generous, and the chips are definitely worth a mention 👌 . I don't understand why so many places nowadays can't make a decent place of chips. The atmosphere there makes you feel like you're in a football time capsule. As far as pubs go, they tick the right ticks for me. Sport memorabilia, great pub food menu, plenty of TVs for sports and cold beer.
