I celebrated my birthday with my partner in Head over Hills recently and fell in love with the place the minute I walked in. The very warm greeting by the staff was so inviting. We were offered a welcome drink for the check in and sat down in the main dining room. The view from there is simply stunning and quite frankly it is even better than the pictures on the website, which in most cases is the opposite. After the check in we went to our room which was the Elephant suite. An oasis of tranquility greeted us when we opened the door and even more stunning views from the room and private deck left us speechless. The room itself is very comfortable and the huge bathroom with sauna gave the whole experience a very luxurious atmosphere. To make the experience ultra luxury, the room has a king size Hastens 2000T bed. The only retreat on the entire African continent that has this bed on which you can experience what it feels like to sleep and dream in heaven. Because it was winter we used the fireplace in the room. Not only did it heat up the room quickly in the evening but the fire also created a very romantic energy. The incredibly friendly staff cleaned the fire place every day and stocked enough wood for the next fire. We had dinner in the restaurant a couple of evenings and it had everything we expected and more. A romantic ambiance, delicious food, perfect wine selection and again....the very friendly staff. Superb!! During our stay we had the pleasure to meet Therese and Martin (owners). They invited us to a wine tasting which happened to take place on my birthday. Martin also showed us the beautiful wine cellar. While talking to them I began to realize why Head over Hills is such an amazing and unique place., the retreat is an extension of the beautiful energy the owners carry. Therese and Martin are wonderful people who have created a gem in South Africa and as far as I am concerned in the world!!. Celebrating my birthday at Head over Hills was an unforgettable experience in a divine luxurious setting surrounded by beautiful people. Simply an 11 out of 10 :-) !! Thank you Therese, Martin and staff for creating Head over Hills and making my 2025 birthday celebration so incredibly special and beautiful!!!

Read moreThis is a remarkable location and the cliff view from Knysna Heads is spectacular and worth the stay. |The staff , restaurant and communal areas are outstanding. Our dinner was excellent and could stand up against the best restaurants . Breakfast was also very good with the most delicious pastries !|We could not have been made to feel more at home and catered to . ||But . What stopped the 5 * was the room . Be very wary of bed sizes . The room we booked was an ok size with a great deck , but the bed was small and as both of us are light sleepers we knew this would not be good . Our only alternative was a twin bed room that was much smaller in size , smaller balcony and generally claustrophobic and cluttered. The beds were child size single , so that was fun ….🙄.|What made it all manageable was the fact that we were the only guests ( out of main season ) so we could spend most of our time in common areas , but it would have been nice to have enjoyed our original choice of room with inside chairs to lounge on when we wanted and a lovely big deck with loungers .|Also , be aware, the bathroom ( including wc) is all part of the bedroom with only shutters for privacy ( that only act as modesty not closure) . There is no extractor fan , so again , that was fun …🙄🤣. Shower was very dated and water almost impossible to control without wasting a lot of water in the process . The bathroom looks great , but in reality not so much . ||A beautiful place in (almost...
