The Waffling Whale Cafe — Restaurant in George

This was such a little gem! After going to the Plett Puzzle Park and raining out, we drove to the Waffling Whale Café for a late lunch. We were all starving by then and our toddler was tired and hangry. Luckily they had an inside play area with arcade games for bigger kids and soft play area for younger kids to keep the hungry kids busy for a while. We waited for quite some time for our order to arrive though. New customers had walked in and sat beside our table and were even served before us. When I then asked where our food was, it was brought to us a few minutes later. Hubby got someone's else food, then we left it on the side of the table so we could ask for the correct order. They did at least realize we received a wrong order and corrected it before we could query it. Hubby had the Fab Waffle and enjoyed it a lot. I had the Curried Mince Waffle, but it was wayyy too tangy. Our eldest son ordered a burger and we got our toddler a kiddies waffle with ice-cream and sweets, which was a very generous portion for him. It's beautifully decorated inside. Would love ti visit again...

It seems there are no waiting staff and the receptionists are in fact the waitresses. This makes sense because it took 3 of them to attempt to make a coffee, which was watery and horrible. I’m really not sure what they did to achieve such a result. When taking our order the “waitress” didn’t seem to know the menu and seemed as though she struggled to place the order on the system.Sure she could have been training or new but I seriously doubt that was the case because they all seemed as clueless as the next. One waffle came out amazing it was fresh and delicious the other seemed as though it had been sitting in a fridge for a day, microwaved and given to us, it was absolutely revolting. They never even came to check on the table. I’ve come here many times and each time has gotten progressively worse. I am a waitress and I normally have a lot of patience and grace for waiting staff, because they get put through a lot, however this was a shocking experience. I am really disappointed. This was the worst meal we have had in plett, and we are locals, the mushrooms look like they came from the Diosaur Era, the Basket was with a pink Vienna not cocktail sausages, the only thing we ate was the chips and the samosas, and the Burger was the worst patty ever and hard,, the waiter we could see him in the back waiting and eating ,who knows if it was off our menu...will not recommend anyone to eat there, need a Chef...
