Oscar’s Café was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday afternoon, but busy is always a good sign. We were seated promptly and our waiter was extremely attentive throughout. This café is a lovely little lunch spot with great ambience, and for a first visit we had a very pleasant experience. For drinks we had the Orea Milshake, really yum! For mains, we tried the prawns and steak with spiced rice – a good meal overall, though the prawns could have used a little extra basting to lift the flavor profile. I had the steak with prawns and garlic sauce alongside a fresh side salad. Absolutely loved my meal – it was hearty, flavorful, and went down really well. Dessert was the highlight of our visit. The chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream was by far my favorite – decadent, rich, filled with nuts, and perfectly paired with the ice cream. Truly delicious! A cozy café with good service and tasty food.

A very nice restaurant. Pizza was great and the menu has an assorted variety. A decent breakfast experience also. A rather busy vibe at dinner time, so preferable to make a booking. Drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but they do allow corkage which helps.

Oscar’s Café is hands-down my go-to spot in Hillcrest. Whether it’s a birthday celebration, breakfast, brunch with friends, or even a date, it’s always the first place I think of—and for good reason.

The vibes are immaculate, and I’ve had some of the best conversations there. The staff are consistently warm and thoughtful. On multiple occasions, when it’s been a bit chilly, they’ve offered us blankets without us even asking. And when our chats ran long and our food got cold, they kindly offered to warm it up—again, without us having to say a word. That kind of service is rare and deeply appreciated.

The drinks are a solid 5/5 every time. But when it comes to the meals, I’d give them a 4/5. Everything I’ve tried— from wraps, pizza, bolognese—has been okay, but never quite rave-worthy. They’re just a bit too close to a miss. That said, the chocolate lava dessert is an absolute winner—5/5, no question. Highly recommend.

I also agree with another reviewer who said:

“Great food, varied menu will satisfy a range of palates, decent coffee and milkshakes. Oscar’s is a place you could come to several times just to explore all the dishes that catch your eye. It is an easy 4-star, probably 4.5-star. The only reasons it doesn’t get 5 stars is that the chicken livers peri-peri are good but not great, and the cappuccino is similarly good but not great.”

Overall, Oscar’s Café is a place I’ll keep coming back to—not just for the food, but for the welcoming atmosphere, excellent service, and the comfort of knowing you’ll be well...

A visit to Oscar's was recommended by a colleague who said it was an inexpensive and relaxed venue for a light meal and good coffee. Based on the description I was given, I expected something almost quaint but was surprised to find it a vibrant, modern, tastefully furnished establishment that is an absolute delight. Friendliness and welcoming smiles greeted us at the door where we were offered a table for two, either outside, on the wide veranda adjacent to the parking area, or inside. As the weather was abnormally cool for February, we opted for an inside table away from any cold draughts. We enjoyed a cappuccino and latte respectively, and my wife chose a toasted prawn/mayo sandwich. Our waitress, Snethemba (isiZulu for "Hope") took pity on the fat man practising intermittent fasting and duly presented me with 2 additional biscotti to eat while my lady enjoyed her toasted sandwich!! While waiting for our coffee, I saw a young busboy carrying a glass of water and immediately knew I needed to order 1. Partly in jest, I asked him whether it was 'my' water he was bring and he simply rose to the occasion, said "Yes, of course!", placed it in front of me and secured a replacement glass of water for the customer for whom it had originally been intended. 😃👏👏👏 Well done, Reece!! Then the toasted sandwich arrived and was pronounced "So nice!". Another young waitress, Zama, then spent 10-15 minutes chatting to us about International affairs, rounding off a most enjoyable first visit to Oscar's!! Highly...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Oscar's Cafe in Hillcrest, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately made me feel at home. The restaurant's charming decor and cozy ambiance set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.

Now, let's talk about the food. Every dish I tried was an absolute delight. The menu boasts a variety of options to cater to every palate, from hearty comfort food to gourmet delights. The ingredients were fresh, the flavors were expertly balanced, and the presentation was impeccable. Whether you're craving a juicy burger, a flavorful salad, or a decadent dessert, Oscar's Cafe has something to satisfy every craving.

But what truly sets Oscar's Cafe apart is the exceptional service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of perfect. From their friendly demeanor to their attention to detail, they truly made me feel like a valued guest.

In addition to the fantastic food and service, Oscar's Cafe also offers a lovely outdoor seating area, perfect for enjoying a meal al fresco on a sunny day. And let's not forget about the desserts - indulgent treats that are simply irresistible.

Overall, my experience at Oscar's Cafe was nothing short of outstanding. Whether you're looking for a casual meal with friends or a romantic dinner for two, I highly recommend giving this hidden gem in Hillcrest a try. You won't be...
