Springside cafe — Restaurant in KwaZulu-Natal

It's taken me a while to consider posting this review. My wife and I are both in the hospitality industry and we rarely get days off so on the occasion we do we like to spoil ourselves with a nice breakfast. We mostly go to places we know as we don't want to risk a bad experience. However on this day we decided we should try something new. This turned out to be a mistake. I will start by saying that the gardens are beautiful and that on a technical level there was nothing wrong with our food. We had seen online that they had eggs benedict which when we arrived turned out had been removed from the menu. (It would be nice if restaurants updated their online information) Instead we decided to order a toasted sandwich and snack basket. Now normally when you order both of these items especially for the price listed chips are included by default as its a cheap filler. The toasted sandwich was fine but there was nothing special about it to justify the price as it used standard sliced bread and as for the snack basket you could choose 3 items but one of your items could be chips. This is not normally the case for snack baskets but we opted for chips, chicken strips and rissoles. The chicken strips were frozen (and we know exactly which brand) despite how easy it is to make them which would have been forgiveable if there were more than 3 and as for the rissoles we didn't even know they made rissoles that small they were probably only 40g each and again we only received 3. On a technical level there was nothing wrong with the food it was just incredibly overpriced and the quality was lacking. We could maybe have forgiven the price if the quality has been much higher. I recently brought my family to this established as my girlfriend and I visited previously and were impressed. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed and asked for the drinks order but already were ready with our meals order and placed that at the same time @around 13h05. Around 20mins later our lattes and tea were served which to me was abit of a wait but no complaint there as when we asked the waiter she assured us the meals are on its way. Already 13h40 and still waiting for Meals I asked the waitress again and she said it’s coming now almost ready. So I gave the waitress 5mins to have the meals delivered. Upset, frustrated and hungry I asked another waitress to please check on our food order. She had come back telling us that the waitress had only placed the order 5mins ago. Which was about 13h45. Explaining to the other waitress this is unacceptable and my dad being a diabetic he did not eat since the morning. We asked for the bill for the lattes and tea to leave however the drinks were on the house which I would’ve expected.

I’ve seen this establishment with a lot of potential and beauty disappointingly enough the staff let the place down. Our initial waitress didn’t even come and apologise. I won’t be coming back or recommending this place to any...

Quite disappointed. We thought we would pop in for coffee and cake and milkshakes for the kids at about 11H15 today (Saturday morning) We not from the area used Google to find outdoor coffee shop and we unfortunately choose Springside Cafe. On arrival one has to walk past the outdoor seating area to get to the entrance. This was crealy the smoking area. We were met by a very snooty attitude waiter who told us ten reasons why he was full and that we never booked a table. It was clearly 90% empty and lunchtime was over an hour away. He then reluctantly gave us a table. We ordered cappuccino and milkshakes and skipped on the cake. The cappuccinos were luke warm when they arrived. Waitress was totally unfriendly as well, and missing most of the time. We had to ask another waiter for the bill. This is a beautiful cafe and I think the food will be great.
