Cape Point Vineyards is our (my wife and I) most visited place in the Deep South. This is a spectacular venue and we love taking our visitors here for lunch, or dinner for the incomparable sunsets. It is in Noordhoek and is the only wine estate on this side of the Peninsula. The food for me is always disappointing. I like simple, uncomplicated food. CPV does not do simple. La Grotto at Constantia Uitsig is my kind of food...this is not it. My wife loves their food. She probably has a more refined palate than I do. There are four places to eat, the main restaurant, the Courtyard, the picnic experience and the wine tasting experience, which has a sushi menu. The wine tasting and sushi is my favourite experience at CPV from a food perspective. The picnic is also fun and romantic. The restaurant and the Courtyard are not to my liking. Limited options and too complicated for my taste. The service here is awful. It's so awful it's a reason to go there so you can have a Fawlty Towers moment to remember. The staff are not well trained and have not mastered the art of unobtrusive attendance. They have mastered the art of unobtrusive, because once seated, they can forget about you for an hour. The staff could benefit from a visit to a wine estate like Vergelegen to experience what excellent service is. Maybe they just do things differently on this side of the Lentil Curtain. The food does come quickly when you finally order. The wines at CPV are spectacular. Book a wine tasting just to taste their world class Isliedh White blend. A superb wine, as are all of their Sauvignon Blancs. This is not a place for lovers of red wine who cannot appreciate a good white wine. Overall, I would recommend CPV. It is a gorgeous location. Do not go here to show off your latest Gucci bag, your hat the size of a small car, or your fancy trousers. Nobody cares. People often come in shorts and shoes are optional. Take a stroll around the pond and take some pics of the panoramic vistas of Noordhoek, Kommetjie and Chapman's Peak. Take some selfies for your Instagram. It will be a memorable day. For that reason I would give it an...

REPLY TO COMMENT FROM OWNER: As a guest I do not know what contracts the vineyard has with whom, and this does definitely not excuse bad behaviour. The guard merely wanted to be friendly and do us a favour. It's troubling for us to think that the guard has perhaps lost his job because of our doing. Sharing further action to be taken with a staff member with complete strangers is in my opinion a very poor show of management, especially from the owner.

I can no longer in clear conscience recommend Cape Point Vineyards. We have been coming here for a very long time, almost from the beginning, and have over the years repeatedly recommended it to friends, colleagues and visitors. This is no longer going to happen! We wanted to have a glass of wine with friends that were visiting the Cape for 2 days. When we arrived we saw that CPV was closed for a private function. We asked the security guard if it would be okay for us to just drive to the top and show our friends the view. He said it would be okay. We were there for about 2 minutes and just about to leave when a large white SUV drove by and without a greeting in any way and were asked if we were part of the wedding party. We explained how we came to be there and that we would be leaving immediately. We asked him to please not give the security guy any trouble. His reply to that was that he would fire him and drove off. We will no longer be recommending CPV to ANY ONE and we will not return! As has been pointed out in previous reviews, this venue is about accumulating money, and no longer about looking after their guests and employees. What a pity! Personally as the owner of a vineyard I would be ashamed of myself to have treated visitors and employees in such a...

its not really 2 stars, I would give 2,5.

very nice view. terrible service:

we were seated in the courtyard, the menu was poor. we asked if we could have food from the other menu, which was denied.

then we asked to be seated in the other section (a huge amount of places available anyway!!!) which we could.

we were told to hurry up, cause the kitchen would close at 14:00 (but there were still other guests arriving and being served food after 15:00)

then everything went wrong. we ordered a bottle of wine which was out of stock. the waiter didnt know.

ordered still water, got sparkling.

hubby ordered starter and main, I asked to get my starter and side with his main course, but then everything arrived at the same time.

Another waiter told us that our wine is out of stock, offered another one.

we agreed.

bottle of white wine arrived - lukewarm

instead of letting me try the lukewarm wine, he poured half a glass.

so we asked for a bucket of ice and got a bucket with 5 cm of ice from another table.

We asked for some ice to put into my 200 ml of warm wine (bottle over 400 Rand)

That took another 20 min.

the other guy realized that the bucket would not be helpful like it was and got us more ice.

my starter was really poor 3 extremly thin slices of beetroot, a teaspoon of apple, a tablespoon of mushrooms but really overpriced.

in between all that a third guy articed, who took away our wine cooler for no purpose at all.

finished this lunch with 2 espressi.

they showed up without sugar., so we asked for it. waiter arrived with 2 sugar packs in his hands. 🤷🏼‍♀️

the staff needs training. and if guests get informed about it, everything...

Sadly, Worst Service Experience in South Africa ! Cape Point Vineyards needs a wake-up call ! We live in Canada and are visiting family in Cape Town. We thought it would be a perfect place on Boxing Day to stop and have a drink/bottle of wine or two and enjoy the view of Noordhoek beach. Especially with our family and overseas friends who are seeing Cape Town for the first time. Unfortunately we arrived and walked in and said we were just stopping in for a drink and would like to sit outside with a drink. They said … it was fully booked. This was 11:45am Boxing Day (Owners/Managers … that is for you to verify). There was absolutely nobody outside (see picture I posted). Only 1 group had just arrived going outside. This made no sense as we said, we wouldn’t stay too long and would leave if the ‘bookings’ arrived …! They insisted we could only sit inside … why would we want to sit inside when it was such a beautiful day to enjoy the SA sunshine. So here’s my takeaway, if you’re an overseas visitor or even a South African, this place is clueless when it comes to hospitality. Sending people away is just dumb and smacks of stupidity. Instead we left and went to The Farm Village just a little down the road and were treated to normal excellent SA hospitality. Sadly, Cape Point Vineyards get a Zero and message to foreign travel agents … so skip this place, there are plenty of other great spots with views in and around Cape Town that know how to accommodate people with the friendly SA hospitality that the country is renowned for. Try Constantia Glen instead or any of the many other vineyards in Constantia.
