This isn’t just a deli. It’s a full-blown love letter to ocean bounty, disguised as a humble storefront with a licensed sit-down restaurant tucked in the back. You walk in thinking you’ll grab a quick bite. You walk out, wondering if you should cancel your weekend plans and come back for round two.
The Basics: What You’re Getting Yourself Into At “Myfish,” you don’t just order off a menu—you curate your own feast. You stroll past the deli counter, eyes wide at the glistening array of fresh seafood, and point to what you want. They cook it for you, right there, for a small surcharge that feels borderline criminal considering the quality you’re about to experience.
We kicked things off with prawn rissoles—golden, crispy, and so good they should come with a warning label. Then came the main event: a 2kg box of queen prawns for five people. Half peri- peri, half lemon butter. Both halves tasted like Poseidon himself had blessed the seasoning. I’m not exaggerating when I say they were probably the best prawns I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a few. Okay, a lot.
But the prawns weren’t alone. We also ordered mussels in a creamy sauce that were so rich and flavourful, they practically demanded silence at the table. That sauce? Silky, garlicky, and just the right amount of indulgent. The kind of dish that makes you pause mid-bite and reconsider your life choices—in a good way.
The Grand Finale Enter: pastel de nata. That flaky, custardy, cinnamon-dusted Portuguese classic that makes you question every other dessert you’ve ever loved. We didn’t need it. We had no room for it. We ordered it anyway. And we’d do it again.
The Price Tag That doesn’t Sting - Here’s the kicker: if we’d had this meal at a fancy seafood restaurant, we’d be Googling organ donation clinics. But at “Myfish,” the prices are so reasonable, it feels like you’re getting away with something. Honestly, I’ve retired my seafood apron. Why cook when you can feast like this?
The Deli That’s Hiding in Plain Sight - Don’t let the modest exterior fool you. Step inside, and you’re met with a treasure trove of Portuguese groceries and delicacies—everything from imported sauces and spices to traditional snacks that feel like they’ve been smuggled straight from Lisbon. And the seafood selection? It’s not just fresh. It’s beyond imagination. Whole fish, shellfish, fillets, oysters and more, all laid out like a siren’s call to anyone who’s ever loved the ocean.
Final Verdict: “Myfish” isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a place to rethink your relationship with seafood. It’s casual, it’s clever, and it’s absolutely unforgettable. Bring your appetite. Bring your friends. Leave your...
Read moreWe used to frequent My Fish, not only for the lovely seafood, but also for the selection of take home items from the deli. Sadly after having a few bad experiences in terms of service at the restaurant, we stopped visiting. Today we felt in the mood for oysters and seafood and also wanted some prawns to prepare at home. We took a seat after making a staff member aware as no one was available to seat us and then ordered drinks and the oysters. We had already decided on theMy Fish platter for main course. After our drinks and oysters were finished the empty glasses and plates were left on the table for 15 mins, no sign of our waiter Benny. The service is so atrocious that we decided to just get up and pay at the till. I don't know why service is so dreadful at this establishment, why does it seem Benny is allergic to a simple smile as the potential for tge restaurant is limitless. In addition to the loss of our main course, you also lost out on us buying prawns and fish in the deli. We pride ourselves on also tipping well (20 - 30%), but how can one tip like this with such bad service. It will take a miracle for me to be a patron at your business again and I will definitely not recommend your business to anyone going forward. Disgraceful. Update - After a response from the owner to this review where I was invited to email them to reach a resolution to this matter, I emailed on 11 January 2024 which was never responded to and then followed up again on 17 January 2024 to confirm that my mail had been received. Until today 16 February 2024 I am yet to get a response to my mails. Don't get persuaded by these responses that this establishment is interested in resolving the issues you may have had. It is simply lip service to seem like they are eager to improve in the public eye, but there is no actual interest in this. So disappointing. I work in the service industry myself and upset clients are an opportunity to improve and if treated properly and with care, these clients can be won over for life. I will never support this business again and I will discourage everyone I know from doing so. Much better service received from Durban Seafoods in Randburg, although a bit...
Read moreI had the most abysmal experience at this seafood shop. I purchased clams and crabs, only to find that they emitted a revolting, pungent fishy smell that reeked of ammonia. When I returned to the shop to inquire about the quality of the seafood, the staff callously dismissed my concerns, attributing the offensive odor to the "aroma of the sea" - an utterly absurd explanation. Upon attempting to cook the clams, a mere 8 out of the entire pack opened, indicating their poor quality. The stench emanating from the cooking process permeated my entire home and lingered for an intolerable amount of time. Regrettably, the crabs were afflicted by the same putrid ammonia odor, rendering them entirely inedible.
To exacerbate matters, my efforts to seek resolution were met with further disappointment. Despite my phone call and subsequent return to the shop, the staff callously insisted that the nauseating smell was perfectly normal, displaying a shocking disregard for customer satisfaction and basic food quality standards. This experience has left me thoroughly disillusioned and I am compelled to warn others to steer clear of this establishment...
