The Rooftop Grill and Bar — Restaurant in Roodepoort

Very poor service!! Worst place I have ever been to. My sister and her family from America came to visit. I took them to the Rooftop on Thursday, 10th March. We were 10 adults and two children. Arrived at 6:30, was served at 9pm. 4 Rump Trinchado’ s could not be eaten. I could not even cut the meat, it was so tough, the prego slider was soggy. We got bread instead of Portuguese rolls with the Trinchado’s. I asked for a take away box for the girls pizza. Waited more than an hour for the container. The bill was R3400 plus a huge tip. I have phoned on numerous occasions and spoke to Romeo the supposedly Manager. Romeo couldn’t find our slip??? Asked me for the slip, after I told him a 100 times that the bill was paid with an American bank card. Still waiting for the OWNER to contact me!! What a total embarrassment. We also had visitors driving all the way from the South to join. The least the owner could do was to contact me. Now if you phone, they just put the phone down. I suggest they train their waiters, it wasn’t even busy that specific evening. The waiter twice couldn’t get the tomato cocktail...

A beautiful view with disappointing service.

The Rooftop restaurant boasts a stunning view and a wonderful atmosphere, complete with classic tunes playing in the background. My compliments to the chef for the excellent food.

However, the quality of the food and the ambiance was overshadowed by the extremely poor service I received. After my waiter, Primrose, brought my initial order, she failed to check on my table even once. I had to ask for cutlery, a seemingly obvious necessity, and she still did not follow up. I was left to eat without utensils and had to wipe my hands on my clothes.

Fortunately, other staff members stepped in to help. Their attentiveness was a welcome relief, and I appreciate their assistance.

I hope management will provide further training for their team, especially for inexperienced staff, on the importance of following up with their tables. While I loved the food and the view, my experience was ultimately ruined by the...

Disappointing First Visit

We visited the Rooftop Grill and Bar for the first time last Friday and had high hopes. The view is charming and the decor lovely, but unfortunately, the food and service let us down.

I ordered the fish, which was very tasty. My husband ordered the fillet steak, medium rare. What he received, however, was cold, full of sinew and fat (at least 30%). We mentioned this to the waiter, who told us we should have sent it back to be reheated—defeating the point of ordering a medium rare steak. Not wanting my meal to go cold while waiting for a replacement, my husband reluctantly ate it as is.

We then spoke to the manager, who admitted the waiter had mistakenly given us a sirloin instead of the fillet. He promised to follow up with us, but we’ve heard nothing since.
